So I suppose this means the medical staff has declared him ready to come off the "Active/Non-Football Injury" list.

He's pronounced himself ready... don't know that the team doctors have however.

Was this just a veteran trick to avoid training camp and preseason?

Yea, I had considered that they might hold off moving him to the active roster right away in order to extend the audition of one of their developmental tight ends on into the regular season. We won't have to wait long for their decision.

Ready to be cut
He should be.

Why?
Because he didn't participate in anything. OTAs included, if I'm not mistaken. As other old saying goes, "you can't make the club in the tub". Vannett, Dissly, and Swoopes and/or Daniels is good enough. It's not like Ed Dickson is some top tier TE. When I think of Ed Dickson, I think of John Owens.

The career of John Owens falls far short of what Ed Dickson has done to date. They are not at all remotely comparable IMHO.

Journeyman, second string, block first tight ends. Anything you get from them in the passing game is a bonus. That's just my opinion.

Point is Dickson did absolutely nothing to make this team. He put in zero work. Then you have guys like Vannett, Dissly, and Swoopes who busted their humps all summer long. If Dickson makes this team, then Pete needs to do away with his "always compete" motto.

Ed Dickson has the resume they wanted. Wilson and Dickson worked well together prior to his quad injury. So it is really a matter of whether he is going to be ready for opening day.

(On Ed Dickson) “As far as Ed is concerned, we’re hoping that he’s going to make it back for the opener. That’s what we’re shooting for.” --- Pete Carroll

The Austin Davis news is surprising. I wonder when he got hurt. That trade for a tight end was timely as was the trade for a quarterback.
