Maybe this will help ..........................................

Strengths Two-year production including 157 tackles and eight interceptions will catch your eye. Former soccer player with good balance and footwork in space. Displays good reactive quickness in his transition to the football. Excels in zone coverage underneath. Plays with good route anticipation and will jump the routes. Reads quarterbacks and is willing to break off coverage and overlap into another area to make a play on the ball. Has timing and hands to make consistent plays on the football when he's in position.

Interesting. He is only 24 and was drafted in the 7th round of the 2017 draft.

Maybe they would like to part with one of those recent firsts they got for a safety to replace him.

I dunno...

I guess I thought of Luani as a developmental/maybe special teams prospect. He was productive from a "ballhawk" standpoint at WSU. He was not known for his tackling consistency.

It does not boost my confidence in our current developmental/special teams DBs if we are trading draft picks for others at this point. Maybe they see something; Norton was his DC afterall.

Out here
Does anyone know what they gave up to get Luani? I really hope it's not another backup safety for a 5th rounder trade. A few years ago, Seattle traded a 5th to Oakland for Dewey McDonald. He was terrible at S so they converted him to LB. I don't even think I ever saw him play. From what I remember about Luani, he has decent ball skills, but is an atrocious tackler. Like beyond awful. Hopefully he's been cleaned up some.

Rob Staton will love this. He was right in assuming the Hawks wanted him in the draft/udfa.

Just as a correction note ......................

Seattle traded a conditional 7th round pick for Dewey McDonald as a hybrid project and special teams player. A knee injury crippled his development and brought his hybrid fit and career to a premature end. It was a good purposeful trade that was negated by injury.

Ken Norton's Shalom Luani trade is a purposeful trade that adds roster intrigue going into the Denver game.

I know nothing of this kid other than his SPARQ heading into last years draft was bad. Do they see him as another Chris Maragos? I don’t understand the logic in dropping Alexander for Luani.
