Hawks Record Against Winning/Losing Teams

Below is our W/L record and opponent record to this point.

L (Road) - Broncos, 3-6
L (Road)- Bears, 6-3
W (Home) - Cowboys, 4-5
W (Road)- Cardinals, 2-7
L (Home) - Rams, 9-1
W (Road)- Raiders, 1-8
W (Road) - Lions, 3-6
L (Home) - Chargers, 7-2
L (Road) - Rams, 9-1
W (Home) - Packers, 4-5-1

We haven't yet found a way to beat a team with a winning record, and have beat everyone--except the Broncos--who has a losing record. We've been competitive in every loss, (though the Bears game wasn't great, especially after the pick-6) and have had a chance to win or go ahead in the 4th Q, never getting blown out.

Again, excepting the Broncos, the teams who have beat us also have a lot of national buzz for post-season success.

How do you interpret this trend? What does it tell you about this team? Is it as simple as, "we are what our record says" and "we are who I thought we'd be this seasons"? To what degree do you feel this is evidence of being an 8-8 team on the season (we're at 5-5 right now)?

My interpretation is, "This is Peteball."

Pete's philosophy is one that inherently leaves the team perpetually riding a razor's edge. It isn't a high-scoring offense. It runs, and thus controls time of possession and limits the opposing QB's opportunities while also limiting Wilson's. That means we're always in games, but we often have to grab the win at the last minute.

We haven't done that this year. Some of that, damn the stats, has been on Russell Wilson. Some of it is on a scrappy-but-young secondary. We were three Blair Walsh misses away from 12-4 last year, and we're four Wilson misfires/permitted explosive plays from being 9-1 right now. That's Peteball, and it always will be as long as we're this committed to the run.

That's not even a bad thing, necessarily. It just is what it is. Peteball is the ultimate equalizer, and it works both for us and against us.

We gave the Packers that losing record.

I was just thinking about this today. Prior to last night, there were 4 teams ahead of us for the two wild card playoff spots. We play 3 of the 4 teams between then and the end of the season. We beat Green Bay last night, and we still play both Carolina and Minnesota. Atlanta is the only team we don't play.

Whether we make the playoffs or not, if we want to be an actual contender, we need to get over the hump from almost beating these good teams (losing by one possession) and actually win some of these games.

Also when we played the Lions werent they coming off wins against Miami, Patriots, and Packers.
