Going All Out Against The Chiefs?

I have a question. If the Seahawks clinch a wild card spot on Sunday, do they go all out to beat the Chiefs or do they rest some players and risk taking the loss rather than take a chance of having key players injured?
Just how important is the difference between the 5th and 6th seed and if the Vikings win, does your team go all against the Chiefs to clinch the 5th seed? There are some people on our board who believe that the difference between the seeds won't be enough to cause your team to play to win against K.C.

What do you think?

Hard to imagine Seattle not playing a regular game even if everything is sewn up.

A. Not Pete's style to take the foot off the gas.

B. If it were our last game, maybe you would see some adjustments. But coasting through 2 games is risky, losing momentum heading towards the playoffs.

I think we will be playing full tilt next weekend regardless.

Yes!

Always comPete.

A prime-time game at home.

If we win our first playoff game, we will be going to the Rams or the Saints, two offensive powerhouses. We will look at that game as a great opportunity against a great offensive team to gain experience for the young guys.

Methinks even if Pete were the type to rest players(he isn't), the difference between 5 and 6 is pretty big. Would much rather play in Dallas than in Chicago in January.

I happened to think we match up well against the Chiefs, if we kick their azz, we could enter the playoff with head of steam. The last game would be irrelevant at that point, Pete could cut snaps on our starters. As such, the Chief game wil set us up for the post season, momentum wise.

I would think we'd keep going hard. Having to go to Chicago in January sucks. The Cowboys have that nice warm dome and a QB who only throws for like 150 yards per game.

Pete Carroll does not believe in 'resting' for the playoffs and as I recall has said that many times. I suspect the most he'll go is keep injured players sidelined perhaps a bit longer if we clinch, but that's as far as it will go.

Can we just get past the Niners game before fussing about the Chiefs.

If the Chiefs game is meaningless we will for sure rest dinged up players. Beyond that who cares?

We are a young team and still learning the how to win and play every game like it's a championship game, we will play to win, Pete doesn't want his guys to have a let down any week.

Even if we god forbid lose that game or rest them and lose. And win both San Fran and Cardinal game. Don't we still get the 5th seed due to beating the Vikings,Panthers, and other teams ?

You match up very well. Your team runs the ball extremely well, you have a mobile QB who can avoid their pass rush (their front four is the only part of their defense that's any good), your team is a turnover machine (+11 in turnover differential, No. 2 overall), and your defenders are great open field tacklers.

In short, the 'Hawks' strengths are in areas that the Chiefs are weak in.

The secret to stopping, or at least slowing down, these high powered offenses of today's game is sound, discilplined defense. Sure, we'll make adjustments and play more Bandit and such, but still, it all boils down to basics of good football.

That's what Pete and Ken teach, sound fundamental defensive football. That means run fits, proper zone filling, not biting on fakes and movement and solid tackling.

We almost beat the Rams, twice. In both of those games, and against the Chargers, we were within striking distance at the end. We're better now, especially on defense.

With our clock eating run game and big play ability, we're situated pretty good for a win against the Chiefs. Our last game against the Niners was our wakeup game, reminding us not to sleep on any team. We'll be ready tomorrow, and we'll be ready for the Chiefs next week.

The simple fact is we keep it simple and execute it. High dynamic offenses exploit missed assignments and use misdirection to get big plays. Staying in gaps and playing your space on defense and not biting on the misdirection is what shuts down teams. Why we don't blitz a lot also. When we do it comes as a surprise most times.

On offense it's much the same, man up and beat up teams with power and run, eats clock, frustrates the defense, when they get frustrated they start taking chances, that's when you see the deep ball as teams cheat up to stop the run game.

Our two minute game is harder to defend since it is out of character offense and most teams go zone, we get good chunk yards in both pass and run because they are defending deep and can gash with Wilson running and our routes in the flat, break contain and we go deep once again.

But is all controlled by the threat of the run, we are happy for 5, 10, 20 yards from our backs and Wilson, we know that other teams will cheat up once we get a couple and get a deep ball in.

We will have more trouble with a disciplined defense doing all this, problem is there are few of them out there. Less out there that are designed to stop the running game as a primary weapon.

On defense we play a bend not break a lot and want pressure to dictate things, making mistakes from pressure and not always sacks for turnovers and getting short fields.

It's discipline and believing in the scheme and what we do that makes it work and finding skill sets that Pete helps enhance in his players. He doesn't force round pegs in square holes.

Yes as of right now. 1 win against an nfc team win clinches playoffs, 2 wins clinch 5 seed.

There is a scenario where if SEA only beat the chiefs they can miss the playoffs. But its very unlikely

I've seen it all to often over the years when teams "rest" players and take their foot off the gas, they lose in the first round. They come out flat. I'm sure Pete has seen the same.

I believe that we would try our best to win and not rest players who are healthy. With that said, players who are hurt would be more likely to get more rest time or not play at all.
