Yep. There it is. Just like the ref from Pittsburgh officiating SB40, lets get the guy from Texas for this one. Great. :229031_banghead:  So this is how the NFL "steers" games. Got it.

Anderson was raised in Channelview, Texas where his father was a high school football head coach.[3] He played quarterback for his father at Channelview.[3] Later, he played football for Sam Houston State University, where he was a two-time Academic All-American[2] and lettered four years.[3] He graduated from Sam Houston State in 1974.[2]

After completing his undergraduate studies at Sam Houston, he became a dentist and received a Doctorate of Dentistry from the University of Texas Dental Branch.[2] He retired from dentistry in 2003 when he was promoted to referee in the NFL.[3]

On April 26, 2006, Anderson was named Coordinator of Football Officials for the Big 12 Conference, succeeding former NFL field judge Tim Millis in this position.[2]

Wanting to stay active in football following college, Anderson decided to pursue a career in officiating.[1] He began officiating junior high and little leagues, high school, then eventually college.[1] In 11 years of college experience, he worked games in the Lone Star (Division II), Southland (Division I-AA), and Southwest Conferences (Division I).[2] At the college level, Anderson was scouted by ex-NFL officials who were looking to fill openings at the professional football level.[1]

Anderson joined the NFL in 1996 and, as of 2015, he has officiated in 17 playoff games, including eight Wild Card, two Divisional, five Conference Championship games, and two Super Bowls: Super Bowl XXXV in 2001 (as line judge) and Super Bowl XLV in 2011 (as referee).[5]

The officiating in the Cowboys-Saints game was a bit whacky.

The 111 yards in penalties Anderson’s crew handed the Seahawks in their week eight win over Detroit was the second-most yardage the Seahawks have been penalized this season (behind the crippling 148 yards in penalties from the loss to the 49ers).

Though it didn’t affect the outcome of the game, most of those penalty yards came on a dubious (and widely criticized) 56-yard PI penalty against Bradley McDougald.

In a lofty place tanglin' with Satan over history.
Oh boy.
I can already hear it.
We'll be up by 4 with :54 remaining with the 'girls pinned at their own 6 yard line, 4th&19:

"Roughing the passer. #31, defense. Penalty declined. Pass interference. #29, defense. Penalty accepted. Ball will be placed at the Seahawks 1 yard line. First down, Cowboys!!!
Also, #54, defense, is ejected for lewd gesture and breathing too hard. 15 yard penalty will be enforced on the next kickoff to the Seahawks!"

The pit
Walt Anderson’s crew is one of the worst, flag happy bunch of zebras. They also worked the Saints/Dallas game this year, the most lopsided non-Seattle game I’ve seen this year. Hawks might have to play near perfect ball to beat the 2 teams against them on Saturday.

Not sure why the NFL would assign a native to ref the game. It makes no sense at all. If they call either team heavy or make any mistakes it will be blamed on the officiating.

Dallas will say he's from Huston and hates them, or he was overcompensating to show he unbiased.

Seattle obviously reference super bowl 40 where the officiating was horrendous and one of the officials were born and raised in Pittsburgh.

Even a clean game with low penalty count and no obvious mistakes will be scrutinized. The loser will claim he missed calls all game to benefit the winner.

This is a lose/lose for the NFL. With so many other officials available, Walt Anderson is the last one who should be officiating this game. Add in his reputation and that makes it even worse.

Supposedly he likes to call holding against O-lines. That doesn't bode well for a run first offense.
