Some interesting stuff that seems relevant re: the current WR discussions on .NET

''Besides, quickness is more important than flat-out speed. How often does a receiver run 40 yards straight down the field? Not very often. Lateral speed is what counts. How quickly can you get in and out of a cut? I can do that as well as anyone.''

So basically separation and route running better then just speed, add speed and your on another level, we always knew that here.

Well those of us that have watched since 1976 and seen Largent play and heard all the negatives about how he is too slow etc. There was football here in Seattle before Gen Xers.

It wasn't pretty football..
Largent was pretty much the only highlight in the early years..
I look back and wonder to this day if he'd had a better QB than Jim Zorn
How much better his great stats would be.
Also I marvel still how great his catching ability was.He caught everything!
I mean he had to deal with some horrible QB's with ugly ass throwing of the
football.
How many times did you see him lay himself outstretched to catch it anywhere?
To be on topic:His route running was great but there was a lot more to his game.
You'll never see the likes of him again.

Given that Gen X'ers are defined as '65 to '85 lots of X'ers watched from '76 also. My family has had season tickets from the very first day and I was there for just about every game Largent ever played in Seattle.

He was an amazing player and I still remember in the early days when he wasn't getting as much recognition as he should have when Lester Hayes, the great Raider CB said of him: ''I call him the Albert Einstein of receivers because he`s always coming up with some kind of new, space-age route I`ve never seen before, Hayes said. ''Steve has 10,000 moves at least." He also called him "The Great Steve Largent" and said he was the most difficult for him to cover.
