We've gotten a few reports from some OTAs and now minicamp. What are your rankings of the rookies based on the impact they will have.

Here's mine:

1. DK Metcalf (I'm expecting beasty things from him)
2. Cody Barton (I think he works his way into some playing time because a) he'll just be too ready and b) somebody will get injured somewhere) (from a playing time perspective, I think he gets more snaps than Barton, but he's a guard so he won't be noticed as much)
3. Phil Haynes (I think he takes over one of the guard positions, possibly on his own or because of injury and doesn't give it back)
4. Collier (dline seems to have difficulty making too big of an impact as rookies, but the team is thin so this might be a a little low).
5. Travis Homer (I think this is where the drop-off comes in terms of impact, but I expect him to get some playing time in a third down role)
6. Marquise Blair (I think I read that he is battling injury and missing some time so I think that sets him back in the competition)
7. One of the other two receivers drafted, but I don't know which one
8. The rest

***Edit*** doh! Forgot Collier the first time around.

I just keep getting an awful feeling DK Metcalf is the Christine Michael of receivers. Hope I'm wrong.

My list:

1. Phil Haynes. Expect he'll be starting before Halloween.
2. LJ Collier. Not much competition ahead of him. Talent and opportunity intersect.
3. DK Metcalf. Good role/talent match. Health likely to dictate usage.
4. Travis Homer. Expect he'll take Procise role. Will be valuable ST player out of the gate.
5. Gary Jennings. Despite being #5 receiver -- he has a wide open role as slot option.
6. Terry Wright. Like Jennings. We have definite need for quicker/shiftier WRs. And those are the ones Wilson has shown to prefer to throw to.
7. Marquise Blair. Current injuries aside, it takes a good year to learn to play Safety in this scheme. I don't see him being a #2 option until late in the season.
8. Barton/BBK. If Barton continues on as MLB this year, I don't see him playing outside of Wagner injury. BBK as OLB will have better potential opportunity.
9. Amadi/Christmas/Ursua. Would be surprised if these guys make the active. Keeping Amadi means dropping two of Luani, Thompson, Hill.

Expect 6 WRs, 4 RBs:

Lockett
Metcalf
Moore
Brown
Jennings
Wright

Carson
Penny
Homer
Bellore

Seattle has better crossover options at RB. Penny can be #1 or 3rd down. Homer can be either as well. Bellore a legit FB. No real need for 3rd down specialist back.

They could try and stash Wright and keep McKissic. Seattle has done that the last few years (keeping older vet on opening 53 while trying to stash youth). Basically as a hedge for inexperience early.

You're not even going to list our first round pick?

Ha, I was bound to leave somebody out. Dline doesn't seem to have a big impact the first year but the team is thin there. I'll put him 4th.

It's really kind of wild how many rookies will probably make a significant impact this season.

1. Collier (no choice but to make an impact, he HAS to play and play well for this D-line to improve)

2. Blair (the SS job is his for the taking, if he can stay healthy and learn the system before the season starts, but we desperately need him to be the hard hitting Kam type safety to set the tone on the back end)

3. Barton (going to be tough to crack any sort of starting spot at LB barring injury to KJ, Bobby or Kendricks), but IMO Barton's going to be an absolute beast on special teams to the tune of pro-bowl level of impact.

4. Metcalf (very hard for a 1st year WR to make a big impact, but if any receiver can do it, it's Metcalf, and it's Metcalf in this system and thin starting WR group. One thing's for sure, he's going to get EVERY opportunity to make that impact. Pete loves what he brings, so he's going to be on the field a lot.
