  • Just an observation, it really sucks that DE- Darrell Taylor has been put on NFI. Him contributing to the pass rush is something I suspect was a big part of the team's DL # one offseason plan. Hope he's not out for long as TC reps are critical to development of any rookie player.

Yep. Even more so than usual this year.
Pete is doing what he can to make up for the action reps though, having scheduled at least 2 "game like" events in Clink. Injury/missing time was one of the red flags attached to the Taylor pick so maybe this early season hiccup isn't one that should be altogether unexpected. Regardless, it took me by surprise.

I thought he was still recovering in some way from surgery that had limited his effectiveness which is why he dropped.

  • But there’s no alarm from the Seahawks at putting Darrell Taylor on an injury list to start this training camp.

The team knew when they drafted Taylor in the second round this spring that the edge pass rusher would need time off the field to continue his rehabilitation from lower-leg surgery.

Taylor played last college season through a stress fracture in his lower leg he got in August. He played through Tennessee’s bowl game and the Senior Bowl college all-star showcase for NFL scouts in January, then had surgery Jan. 30.

Surgeons inserted a Titanium rod in Taylor’s leg.

The team still expects Taylor to be a candidate for the weakside, “Leo” defensive end position and pass rusher this season. That’s what Seattle traded up and drafted him to do, to help what was the second-worst sack unit in the NFL in 2019.

The players aren’t starting practices until Aug. 12, at the earliest, per 2020’s COVID-19 protocols the league and its players’ union agreed to last month in order to begin training camp. Their first padded practices are to be Aug. 17. So Taylor has time to continue his rehabilitation and still participate in the bulk of the true football practices in preparation for the season.

  • Just a note that LB Emanuel Ellerbee who was waved injured went unclaimed and is currently listed as having reverted back onto the Reserve/Injured list at Seahawks.com

  • Thanks Jville!

That was to be expected, his injury is likely a season ending injury. Unless he agrees to an injury settlement then re-signs here or elsewhere, he’s done for the year. Every season there are a few like him some stay with the team or the team pays them out their injury settlement.

  • Listening to Good Morning Football this morning there was a news clip that indicated the Seahawks were "now prepared to move on from Clowney and to consider either or both of Clay Matthews or Emerson Griffen”. Time will tell on this but it seems to indicate the team and Clowney have made no progress towards a deal.

This seems to be confirmed in part by a report from the Seattle Times :

You know how this works, if they are not in Seattle yet then its negotiation leverage, when we see them here and talking then we can say ok we have moved on.

  • They brought Brandon Jackson back today. I'm thinking that leaves the door open for Clowney.
C'MON JC. The big $ fantasy ain't happening, but the SB fantasy might be within your grasp pard. You just have to come on back...We have 79 guys for an 80 man roster. Just enough room for you man.

  • The $ offered to Clowney by the team In their negotiations, if fairly reported, are by no means chump change.

He is known and respected here but by now has to know he’s not going to achieve his contractual fantasy here. In terms of personal comfort he knows what the Seattle situation is all about. His surrounding cast has been improved over that of last season as well. Sometimes less can work out to being more, there are differing considerations in saying that.

Sometimes though there is no deal to be made. For sure I believe the team is better with him here, but not at the cost he seems to be stuck at believing he might achieve.

The negotiations may continue but they seem to be getting close to an end, no deal appears imminent.

  • What's the chances of Britt coming back on a cheap deal? He's had no offers and still living in Seattle.

I have no idea if Finney is good.

  • Britt suffered a torn ACL close to mid season last year and he'll be a good while rehabbing before he can be available.

He probably passed a health check in that his ACL seems to be resolving properly but he's not football ready for a while yet. We will know then if he comes back.

  • Earlier in this thread there was an attempt by a couple of us to set out the new CBA roster changes. The information on this subject is largely second hand and has now changed to deal with the COVID situation.

Here attached is a media report setting out how the rules have changed from the perspective of the Eagles:

https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/ ... oronavirus (This is worth reading)

It will be interesting to see how these roster changes work this season. Effectively it means:

    1. Active rosters will effectively be changed from 53 to an effective number between 53 and 57 depending on call ups from the PS. Frankly unsure on this but with the 4 man protected list and the ability to activate then deactivate PS players the effective active number becomes up to 57 from 53. I expect JS to work this rule change.

    2. Practice Squads are changed from 12 to 16 of which 6 players may be veterans with no limit in experience and 4 players can be protected, Players can be activated and then returned to the PS w/o waiving them.

    3. IR rules have changed and any number of players can be recalled from IR as long as they have missed 3 games due to their injury. Players can have up to 21 days to return to active status.

    4. Complex COVID Reserve rules have been established that set out how players are placed on reserve and their requirements for time on this reserve and their return to active status. Players can be activated from PS to replace a player placed on COVID Reserve as late as 90 minutes prior to games.

Additionally we know that players can opt out for COVID concerns, their contracts will toll for them then.

If anyone knows of a rule book source for the changes it’d be nice to have it posted here.

Please add your comments to clarify or correct my post as this is in a few ways arcane stuff and convoluted.

  • This is excellent news!

Suddenly the defensive backfield is looking stronger than it has for a few seasons,

Just a few more pieces and some young players stepping up and who knows how good this team could be.

  • Sho nuff on the DB Jammer. That's exciting. But I hope my suspicions are way off regarding the O Line as I am just hoping Russ can get through this season in one healthy piece.
Still hoping we add Gordon and I refuse to give up hope for a Clowney return. I'm thinking there may yet be a trade made.

  • On the strength of the Pelissero report above I've moved Dunbar onto the active roster. I also moved Penny back from the injury list as he is still formally part of the active roster until the cuts, then he will need to be on PUP and not considered active for minimum 6 games before he can be activated from PUP. Given the lateness of his injury last season I doubt he'll be ready to play until game 10 or later.

  • Appy the annual refrain grumbling about the OLine being awful or inadequate goes on every season. No rocks are being thrown. For the team decisions have to be made about roster spots that involve a balancing of paying guys or developing our own. Cable was demonstrably not good at developing players but I have a lot of faith in Coach Solari who has a player type he likes and seems to be better at making them perform.

Brown is a top level LT. I'm uncertain about the depth behind him, will it be Ogbeuhi or Jones? Both have experience starting and have yet to prove they can regularly.

Iupati is a good LG when healthy. The depth behind him is solid in the winner between Haynes who was a college monster and Simmons who demonstrably can play. They also have Pocic to relieve if needed.

Finney likely isn't as good as Britt but os better than Hunt and likely far better than Pocic. However, Pocic may at last have a shot at a starter's job as a C, just in time. At C they will start the season better than they finished last season. This is a plus.

Lewis is a question mark at RG but could be one of the true steals of the draft if he performs like he did at Mobile during the Senior Bowl. Simmons was a solid backup last season.

Shell can't be worse than Ifedi was at RT and could easily in our scheme be a refreshing improvement. The numerous really awful drive killing penalties will hopefully end or be cut back significantly. I suspect th right side of the line could be stronger than it was last season.

There is some interesting depth at each position including a draft pick from last year in LG- Fuller who could find a starters job if that opportunity opens if there is an injury to an inside player. We've seen Simmons play and he is worth keeping on the roster if he can stay healthy. The others are backup quality though several of them have good pedigrees and have started so the depth is not lacking.

I'm optimistically curious about both Shell and Finney and suspect the negativity of a few here is misplaced about this Oline group. They could be a lot better than we presently expect.

If I have a roster concern anywhere it's still directed at the DLine which looks to still be needing some some help at DT and at DE.

  • Positive with Dunbar, then a negative.

Wonder where Ursua went that he ought not to have gone? Hope the rest of the WR corps are free, and Ursua was caught quickly. Hope he's asymptomatic and remains healthy.

Ursua's place on the roster is far from secure as there are a few guys ready to take that spot, so he and guys like him should be extra careful. Meanwhile the shoe should drop soon on the suspension of Gordon. If he's released from suspension I predict he'll back, a WR will likely be the corresponding roster move.

    Open roster spot. Updated.

Be very quiet, Goodell is still hunting Wabbits, Monday is when they drop a lot of Bombshells from the league office. We need to hold our breath thru next week I am thinking.

  • A voice of sober reflection.

We will see if the league sees this as a bad conduct worthy of punishment case. I suspect not, but 4 games asa first offence with no charge might be where it resolves as lesson to Dunbar.

I suspect though that this is an odd situation which may not have any penalty than already imposed visited upon the player.

    We’ll see.

  • I’m excited by the addition back to the roster of Dunbar and if nothing else the prospect of coverage sacks is now a reality.

It seem to me with $15+ million in open cap there will be some upcoming defensive additions that will add to to defensive output.
