Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says he'd be fine with delaying training camp amid coronavirus

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll on Friday told 710 ESPN Seattle that he’d be fine with NFL training camps being delayed amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, to make sure all concerns about playing football during this time have been adequately addressed. The Seahawks are set to begin camp July 28.

“Whatever we need to do to get this right is what I hope we do,” Carroll told 710’s John Clayton. “If we’ve got to slow down a little bit to get started, that would be okay. There (are) a lot of unsettled issues right now between the league and the players.”

  • Of course he would. That way we don’t lose any draft picks from the league because we practiced too hard.

  • I'm with coach. Too much uncertainty right now.

Player and coach safety should be the focus.

Cant wait to see this thread become political

  • Not sure what else he could say. Things are kind of uncertain right now. Might as well roll with the flow.

There is no uncertainty. There is no cure. People will continue to test positive. More testing will show more positives. NFL players will get it. Statistically none of them will die and maybe a small amount might end up in the hospital. You either play or don’t play understanding those facts.

Players can be grown ups and take responsibility for their own health. If you aren’t worried then play. If you are worried stay home. Nobody else is responsible for you.

Last week, the Premier League tested 1,973 players and recorded zero positive cases. They have less than 25 positive cases since resuming training in late May.

20-something athletes are at pretty much zero risk from Covid-19 anyway.
Keeping "cases" low among 20-somethings doesn't do much for the 70 and 80 year olds who are dying in significant numbers. The article seems like more of a biased political dig not particularly objective, and with no actual useful information. It's older people with underlying health conditions, that are at risk, and which strategies need to have as a focal point and measure.

This Deadspin is clearly a left-biased site, interesting their one-sidedness in that article about the people defending Columbus statue in Philly from a mob. Italian-heritage people and their friends show up to protect it from an inevitable mob assault, er, peaceful protest. Anyone remember when Italians and Poles were racial groups, and subjected to slurs and jokes? Now they're all just "white", and Italian-Americans now apparently have no right to preserve their heritage, in Deadspin's view.

Anything more from this biased site more properly belongs in the Politics area.

I don't think Uncle SI had any interest in Columbus statue and just wanted to note that the Premier League was doing better opening than the MLS was. Then you went into the dark rabbit hole that is US politics.

I would note that it's easier to open a sports league when infections are declining than when they are rising uncontrollably.
