On players who have been gaining or losing weight in the off-season i.e. Bruce Irvin and Greg Scruggs (really only two that I know of)... and found this at gamefaqs.com of all places and thought it was a funny read:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/2000211-sports-and-racing-nfl/65700997

As much as the I feel like the "talking heads" of the League has finally caught up, instead of shoving Seahawk analysis into a dark, media closet... other fans still hate us, I don't know even know why, its not like the Seahawks have ever been relevant in NFL history only save for a few special occasions in the 80's, 2003-2007, and 2012.

Honestly, I wonder if the hater parade has something to do with being the "best and loudest fans in the NFL", It must rub other fan bases the wrong way or something to be so passionate despite the fact that we aren't always cheering for good team in some years.

Any whoo- GO 12's.

Also, instead of creating a new thread (as its not a big deal), I'll commemorate for my 100th post in the .NET community, perhaps, family that my posting name, Pandion Haliaetus, if anybody was ever in a ponder or wonderment, is the scientific name for an Osprey aka Seahawk.

I did wonder about the name, and its tight!

Its not hate from the world, its more of a "out of sight, out of mind" deal

We have less people in our state then NYC. The funny thing is the side of the state with like 4+ Million people ends up being the lesser side.

So its us being overlooked more then hated.

Other teams talk about the 12th man like they talk about AP...A force that can't be stopped and that they have to game plan for. To me its sad that other teams/fans even talk about it. It shows weakness.

I had wondered about the name and it's pretty obvious when I think about it. Cool moniker nonetheless.

The real question here is whether it's in the Accipitridae family or of the Buteo variety? Hmm? :D

Cool name! Off topic, on Sunday I saw an osprey carrying a fish flying over I-90 near Cheney. I took it as a good luck sign.

I'll be honest, I did wonder what the significance of your name was, haha.

The only fan base that should really hate us would be Washington.

Due to scheduling/seeding we've knocked them out of the playoffs for the last decade. 3x now I believe. I'd start to hate a team that did that to my team all the time.

From that thread it makes it sounds like he has gained 10-15 pounds. IT hasn't been that drastic.

To me it was funny hearing the talking heads and some on here say that Bruce is "Too Small" to hold up against the run, and in the next breath talk about how effective Clemmons was against the run.

According to the official site: They were listed as such
Clemmons- 6-3, 254
Irvin- 6-3, 249

So according to this post he's added roughly 6 pounds. He's not depreciably smaller than Clemmons. I'm hopeful that he's become a stronger player this year.

But what also get's me is that before the season most- even talk radio shows were saying if Bruce got 10 sacks it than it would be worth the 1st round pick regardles of how much he plays.

Then He records 9.5 sacks (including playoffs) but was weak against the run and all of a sudden, alot of fans are questioning if he'll ever be a starter in the league. When did expecatitions chance so much for Irvin?

I think he was solid as a rookie and I expect him to grow considerably and be more consistent in 2013.

I was thinking about that a few days ago. I wonder how many more times we can do that? Is there any kind of record for one team knocking off another team consecutively? And if so, how close are we?

No kidding. With the 2012 season in the can and with the benefit of hindsight, with all the people picked after our original 1st round pick (and not including our own picks), the only people I'd have even considered as possible improvements over the man we got would have maybe been Chandler Jones.

Even if Irvin goes on to become nothing more than a situational pass rusher (which I don't think he will, but if) he was totally worth the pick we used on him if he can put up a minimum of 9.5 sacks a year situationally.

I'm super excited to see what Bruce can do as part of a stable of pass rushers. In that ATL game, he was the only real pass rush threat so they shut him down pretty easily. Teams won't be able to do that when they have to account for Bruce, Avril, Clemons, Bennett, my man Jordan Hill AND the possibility of a blitz from Winfield &/or Earl. We're going to spend a LOT pf time in the backfield this year and I expect Bruce to put up awesome sack totals.

Depending on how they utilize him, I could give a shit if he doesn't stuff one run. It's not his job. It's like complaining about the punter's tackle totals IMO. It's cool if he can make the stop, but that's not the reason he's out there.

Bruce is a specialist, and his specialty is pain.

hey canhawk. no disrespect and as a lifelong hockey, and one time canuck fan. referring to your sig, you're just bitter because the sharks owned the nucks. full disclosure... I was living in the bay area upon the inception of the sharks and I was hockey starved. and I'd be pissed too, and have been in the past. remember the canucks rangers series? I hate ex Edmonton players. :thfight7:

Agree that Irvin will be worth the pick at 10 sacks a year as a pass rusher. We're using him the right way if that happens, no matter what his weight is.

And all the cool kids, er... geeks who were into high school biology decades ago knew what the OP's name meant. Used to see them all the time in the streams and lakes around Eastern Washington.

Oh, and CANHawk, that avatar is priceless!
