Unsportsmanlike conduct in Seattle
Was anyone else appalled by the unsportsmanlike conduct of the Seattle Seahawks and their fans, juiced on noise, which surely creates as big an advantage over an opponent as any performance enhancing drug and which, to their shame, NFL officials turn the same blind eye they have to concussions and drugs ("Seattle states case loudly, clearly in rout," Sports, Sept. 16)?

It would be simple to fix. Seahawks players and managers would ask their fans to cease and desist, and the NFL would implement a new rule: The visiting team may stop the game when fan noise is greater than a specified decibel level, and should this rule be violated in more than three games, no home games will be played at the offending field for the rest of the season, including playoff games. Things would quiet down.

At a time when the world seems sour, sports give us a place of joy, community and hope, and to have it spoiled is a bigger loss than it seems on the surface.

Okay, couldn't resist comment. It seems like culture of whining has extended from Harbaugh to the fans...

Excuses are for losers. They got flat out blown out 71-16 in the last 2 games here. The Hawks are just a better team, plain and simple.

Shut Up!!!!

Grow a pair, get your fans to cheer at your home games and level the playing field, if you have the desire.

GO HAWKS!!!

To properly enforce that rule they would just have to close centrylink. No way the 12th man would comply with that retarded rule. So whats next? Yep, Paul Allen is going to allow his stadium to be closed and his team only play away games... NOT.

Lets walk down this ridiculous road for a moment. Just for fun.

NFL punishes seahawks by making them play every game away. Paul Allen gives the NFL the finger, says we wont play at all if we cant have our home games. Maybe even a lawsuit for lost revenues. Now, all the other teams the Seahawks would have played are going to be down a game, or two in the case of division opponents.

So 13 other owners will have lost revenues.

The TV networks will have lost revenues since they wouldn't broadcast the games.

So essentially it comes down to the NFL would downsize to 31 teams and just eliminate the Seahawks completely, they would have to have a special draft to distribute existing seahawks players to teams and remake the rest of the schedule. That is literally what it would take to shut the 12th man up.

LOL,....The solution, (to be fair league wide), eliminate the NFL as a sporting event,...have all games played without fans,....made for TV entertainment with just the right amount of "canned" cheering played,....wouldn't that be enjoyable?

Its coming...every other seat at the Clink has to be empty to even the playing field ON the field. But I guess that would still be unfair since with only half the seats filled we're still louder that half the other stadiums.

This guy is so stupid. Why would the league actively ask it's patrons to give less of a shit about it's product? Especially when it's in an effort to help the team that the people did NOT pay to see! That doesn't make any sense at all. Somebody needs to slap that douche.

Haven't you guys realized yet that it's pointless to have an argument with Niner fans? Besides the couple rare ones we have that post here who didn't get banned, the average Niner fan has zero ability to concede that anyone else is better than them. You can beat the crap out of their team on national television twice in a row, and they'll still make excuses and belittle you.

5 SUPER BOWLS!!! SUCK IT!!!

Go Hawks.

They keep making it seem like the only reason seattle does so well is because of some cheating in the stadium, yet can't explain why they only won 13 - 6 against us in their own house and had to rely on trap blocking to do it.

I like this, only instead of canned cheering, I must suggest a sit-com laugh track.
