unless we lose a NFCW game, SF wins the game at ARZ, AND we tie in the standings.

If we both finish tied and with the same NFCW record, we would win the next tiebreaker down, common opponents, as we beat CAR and NO, unlike SF.

From NFL.com's divisional tiebreak:

Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
Strength of victory.
Strength of schedule.
Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best net points in common games.
Best net points in all games.
Best net touchdowns in all games.
Coin toss

Where did some people think that we were now not in control of the tiebreaker over SF?

The only way we can tie SF's record is if SF wins out and we lose at least 2. Given that 2 of our last 3 games are against divisional opponents, we cannot tie SF without losing a divisional game. If SF wins out, their divisional record will be 5-1 and ours will be 4-2. Ergo, in the event we do tie, they will have the tiebreaker at that time.

We won't need the tie breaker. 14-2 or 13-3 gets us the 1 seed no matter what anybody else does.

well we have to lose 2 games for this to matter. One of the 2 would be a loss to a NFC West opponent, so if the tiebreaker comes into play were screwed. Not that it would ever come down to this, so everyone calm down.

win the next 2 games and we clinch number 1 seed. win both home games and we clinch number 1 seed. go 3-0 and we have the greatest Seahawk team record of all-time. My money is on going 3-0!

This. Seattle isn't losing any games at home this year, and they're certainly not losing to Eli "interception" Manning. The loss could be a blessing in disguise because it erases any need to sit the starters.

OP, we do NOT own the tiebreak against the Niners because of the Asinine way that "Dear Roger" hosed the 'hawks with the scheduling. San Fran has played all but one Division game and has a 4-1 record. We play divisional games our last 2-3 which means that if we tie the Niners in Division, we win the Division and HFA outright because of record (no tie possible).

Thus in the event of a tie (and the Niners WILL win all their remaining games....bank on it), Seattle is a wild card team. That's the price of today's loss.

And this is EXACTLY why I was rooting for N.O. to beat SF the other week...it's pretty clear why now!

GO HAWKS!!

Smelly, point to a potential scenario where 1) the tiebreaker is relevant (ie, Seahawks and 49ers have the same record) and 2) Seahawks have the tiebreaker advantage.

If Seahawks have a W-L record over 49ers, tiebreaker status is irrelevant.

Incorrect, Polaris. We still own all tiebreakers until a) we lose a NFCW game AND b) the Niners beat the Cards on the road, which is not a gimme no matter how much you say it is.

Wrong. 4-1 is a better winning percentage than 3-1 which means that the Niners own the tiebreak right now. In order for the Niners and Seattle to finish the season tied, Seattle has to have at least 2 division losses and the Niners will have a 5-1 division record. Arizona is frankly a bit overrated right now.
