RENTON – Percy Harvin didn't practice Thursday, still not cleared to return after sustaining a concussion last weekend against New Orleans.

That was about the only definitive information Seahawks coach Pete Carroll offered when asked about the receiver's status for Sunday's NFC title game.

"He's still going through the process, the protocol as we call it," Carroll said Thursday, just before the Seahawks began practice. "We don't know anything yet."

No reason for concern yet on @Percy_Harvin not practicing. Most concussions are not cleared until Friday. Too early to tell @Seahawks

His bio: Former NFL head team physician with 17 yrs of sideline experience.

We'll see for sure. Keeping our fingers crossed.

Percy or NOT, here we come.
Ready to take it to the SF Bums.
Percy or NOT, we will survive.
Clearly, this is our year to shine.

Guys.. concussions are not normally cleared until Friday. This is the new NFL with a basic 3-step method to play.

If he doesn't get cleared tomorrow, he's probably out.. but we probably wont know until the afternoon

Granted, but I seem to recall hearing that normally guys have light activity on Wed, limited practice Thur and full on Friday to get cleared.

Is that incorrect?

It's rare, and usually only in the instance of a light concussion. Bear in mind Harvin may have been concussed twice, the second time being severe enough to knock him out.

There's no mention about whether or not team doctors cleared him, which is the biggest step right now. Team doctors have to clear him before he sees a specialist .. then that specialist has to clear him before he can resume practicing.

Thanks for clarifying.

This also comes after 2 guys violated the protocol, they could be playing it extremely safe incase the league is keeping a watchful eye on things.

Quick, everyone convince themselves that Percy is out for Sunday.

If he is, you'll have already accepted it.
But if he plays, you'll have walnut wood !!!

There's likely going to be two different ways this plays out...

- He wasn't on the practice field today because he was seeing the independent specialist and was already cleared by team docs sometime yesterday. If this is the case and he was cleared, he'll likely be on the practice field tomorrow and marked down as questionable on the injury report.. but designated as a limited participant

OR

- He hasn't been cleared by team docs, meaning he is once again today meeting with team docs .. and could be cleared to visit the independent specialist, though even if he were cleared in this situation.. he would have gone the whole week without practicing, which Pete Carroll usually frowns upon in terms of a player starting. Would he give Harvin a pass if he were cleared late Friday and able to go Sunday? I don't know. They'd probably list him.. AT BEST as a game time decision, if for anything to be a bit of a decoy to the 49ers.. and at worst.. just rule him out tomorrow completely.

Obviously we're all hoping for Scenario A..

I just don't understand why some people just jump in all negative "ohhhh, looks like he's not going to play, oh woe...."

Why is it that I'm almost 100% sure he IS going to play? Just like I knew he was going to play against the Saints? Never had a doubt in my head. He'll be out there against the Niners. I don't "guarantee" or "Book it" either which is another thing that annoys me 'round here. But c'mon... How about just a shred of positivity? He will play this Sunday, I just know it. If he doesn't, then yeah, that sucks ass... Big time! He is the key to getting our offense going IMO. But I believe Pete plays this off a lot more than some of you think he does. Keeps it private to throw off the Niners. It's what I would expect of a good coach and I wouldn't want it any other way. And yes, that stuff happens all the time.

I believe league protocol on concussions, say that an independent doctor must clear him, not a team doctor

I think it boils down to this...

If there is any possible way he can get through these procedures and play, he will. This is not the time to be extra careful with him just to be careful with him.

If he doesn't show up, his brain can't handle another hit yet.

And who knows. What if he played the whole game his hip wound up flaring up again? The hip is a-OK at this point, they say.

If he does play, might have been a blessing in disguise (no player getting hurt is ever a blessing, but you get what I mean)

Those who know ....understand that Pete likes to keep news "under the covers" as long as possible. The Niners staff will have to practice covering this "phantom" WR right up to Friday afternoon. In the meantime, our OC and Pete can dial up some "surprise plays". I've got good vibes for Sunday even he Percy does not play.
