It's not the playbook that needs opening, it's the match-ups.
This is where Percy Harvin factors in HUGE. He completely alters the defensive landscape, as we saw briefly in the Saints playoff game. If they want to stack the box to stop Beast, they will pay. They can't use a LB to spy and contain Wilson in the pocket as so many teams have done, or Harvin will shred the middle on quick throws. If they want to pay all their attention to Harvin, Tate and Baldwin will have mismatches.
The wild card then becomes our tight ends, since the defense will be focused so much on stopping Lynch, trying to contain Wilson and worrying about Harvin/Tate/Baldwin.
This is exactly the offensive dilemma we wanted to create when we made the trade for Percy. It's about to come to fruition. Have fun game planning for that, Jack Del Rio.
All the offensive talk this week is about Manning and his weapons. I like it that Harvin is flying under the radar a bit.
Also, this Broncos offensive juggernaut put up 24 and 26 points against two middle of the pack defenses (San Diego and New England). At the very best, they will score 24 ish against us if all goes perfectly for them.
And our offense will score 24+.
