The Steelers had the "Steel Curtain"
The Vikings had the "Purple People Eaters"
The Bears had the "Monsters Of The Midway"

If we won the SB where would you rank the "Legion Of Boom"

I love the Purple People Eaters nickname because it's threatening and silly in equal measures
Steel Curtain also gets the nod above Legion of Boom I think simply because both that and the above reference the team they play for - if the Viking defensive line decided to up and move to the Lions or the Steelers up and moved to the Browns, they wouldn't be able to take the name with them because it's team specific.

The Legion of Boom could play for anybody. Thankfully, they're ours.

Not a big fan of the "Monsters of the Midway" though...

Hard to put it above any of those just due to lack of historical significance at this point in time that the others obviously have.

Naturally we have a big chance to attach some major historical significance to it in a few days.

As nicknames go, I would rank it 4th behind the three listed.

Ive never been that fond of it to be honest. Comes off sort of junior high-ish... to me.

Right now I'd rank the name behind all those who have won a super bowl and also behind the PPE until games end. A seahawk win Sunday would put LOB at the top of my list though.

Nicknames of NFL teams and a few others that have name recognition to me

"Doomsday Defense"
"Fearsome Foursome"
"Steel Curtain"
"Purple People Eaters"
"The Four Horsemen" - I know, not NFL
"Monsters of Midway"
"America's Team" - Yuck, damn NFL Films dude.
"Orange Crush"
"Killer B's"
"The three Amigos"
"The Arson Squad" - Damn Mariners bullpen, featuring Bobby Ayala

"The Legion of Boom". I wasn't a big fan of it, seemed too cartoonish but the guys like it so I respect their choice. To me, Browner and Kam were the physical enforcers of the secondary. Without Browner, the spirit is less but could be a silent rallying cry for the group.

This "D" is being compared to, the best ever, 85 bears. That is incredible. Some around these parts may not fully understand just how incredible, because they just are not old enough, or don't know the history that far back.
Even if you call THIS "D" the Geek Squad or Seachickens, they have still mucked out a spot in football history.
LOB works for me.
A rose by any other name is still.......

Don't forget the "Dome Patrol" (Rickey Jackson, Sam Mills, Vaughn Johnson and Pat Swilling), the only four linebackers from the same team to ALL be named to the Pro Bowl in the same year, 1992.
