Irvin is seemingly invisible at times, and when Smith has gotten the chance he's been outstanding.
Irvins stats in 12 starts- 40 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 PD, 1 int (8 yards), 1 FF
In Smiths 8 starts-43 tackles, 1 sack, 3 PD, 2 ints (69 yards and a td, both 30+ yards), 1 FF
In Smiths starts they allowed 11.4 ppg, they went 7-1, allowed 254.9 yards per game, all better stats than our season average.
Then take their 3 playoff games where Smith had
23 tackles, 2 pd's, 2 ints (69 yards, 1 td, 1 game sealer),, 1 fumble recovery
while Irvin had... 5 tackles.... thats it.
Can we safely say the Irvin at LB experiment is over and give smith the spot? On a side note malcolm smith is 1 year 8 months YOUNGER than Irvin as well.
