Anybody have a feeling that he is restructuring and staying? His salary is so high and not worth what he has done so it is weird that he hasnt been cut yet, maybe he has been open to restructuring and that's why he hasn't been cut yet, just speculating here.

We are currently under the cap so we don't HAVE to cut anyone until we have any contracts agreed to that would put us over the cap. Other teams who you see cutting guys are in need of cap space for the most part.

He has no roster bonus due so there's no need to rush it. No sense in accruing the 2.4m cap charge for his pro-rated bonus if you haven't made a final decision yet. Miller has a 1m roster bonus due 3/21, Red Bryant 3m roster bonus.

I hope we find a way to keep him. A lot of people have talked about the Super Bowl run and how it had to have killed Browner and feel bad for him as a result. I feel bad for Sidney Rice. This is a guy who has worked his butt off, done everything right, buying into the Seahawk way 100% and basically has to watch the whole run due to injury. He never complained about not getting enough touches, and when you saw him on the sideline while injured, he looked to be genuinely happy for his teammates even though had every reason to "pout". Guys like Sidney and Zach Miller are veterans who "bought in", sacrificing stats for the better of the team and I hope we can find a way to keep them around.

I understand where you are coming from, but Rice was out because of injury, so he was actually able to go to the Super Bowl and enjoy it with his teammates, where Browner wasn't allowed to do that due to his suspension.

Personally I think they both get a ring from the organization and in 20 years they'll both have that to show for their time here and that's a lot in and of itself

Browner's a huge reason why the LoB got the reputation it did. Most people think it's mainly Kam, and he played a big role, but mental badassery was Browner's thing. Even though I'm still kind of feeling like a scorned lover that he basically pissed his career away for some pot/coke/meth/whatever, I hope he gets a ring.

Everybody remember when Sherman said that Browner yelled at him for going soft on Fitzgerald the first time they matched up? Browner accused him of being starstruck or whatever, and told him to get more physical, haha.

To me it's obvious, at minimum Rice and Clemmons are gone. There's no way to justify their current salary, both are at the tail ends of their careers - Rice due to injury, Clemmons due to age. You can replace these guys with younger and less expensive options.

I also see Miller and Red asked to restructure/take a pay cut or they will be gone as well. Need to create room for the contracts needed in the next 2 years.

I think that he will be back. His salary will have to change if he is back but he is a good player that has made big plays.

He won't catch 100 balls but neither will anyone else in this offense. You can't just measure the importance of a player with stats.

He is a very good blocker (from what I've seen) and works hard (from what everyone else says) and does everything that is asked of him. What more do you want in a teammate???

You can just tell that Sid LOVES it here, loves this team and really WANTS to stay. He knows how good we've got it here (the right answer to you stupid little question is US Harbs). I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear Sidney Rice accepts a slash and burn contract restructuring just to stay.

Personally, I love him to death. He's obviously such a good dude and I love his game. He has such a complete skillset and he's made some downright sexy catches; he can high-point balls, do the tippy-toe sideline catch as well as anyone and runs nice routes; he's got the size, the reach and is a pretty good blocker for a WR. When he's ON he's one of the better WR's in the game IMO. It's just tragic he can't stay healthy.

Personally, I think he fills a role in that WR corps that was missing down the stretch. Kearse and Lockette filled in admirably, but they were a downgrade from Sid. but I agree, the ROI on that monster contract of his is just not realistic. He needs to slash and burn or he's gone.

Rice gone. They don't need to do anything yet. The salary cap is still being calculated so until you know what final number you have to work with, why make any moves that may or may not be necessary once that information is available?

Rumor is $130m, the $4m bump over what was previously the conservative assumption might allow new wiggle room so priorities and strategies thus change accordingly.

Also the signing of WR Chris Matthews appears to be positioned to take over the tall WR role in our offense. There's also a good chance we take a TE early so we may have our big redzone targets lined up there and Rice would not be necessary.

I don't think he is one of our best 5 WR's. No reason to keep him around at any price.

But he can't stay healthy. That's not his fault but it is a reality. In the last 3 years he has missed a third of regular season games. How much are you willing to spend on a player that's not available.

What if he signed for the $2.4M in dead cap money that cutting him cost anyway?

yes, he certainly took his millions of dollars so admirably, hard to imagine anyone having that good of an attitude while getting filthy rich. He could have restructured last year or any of the other years he didn't earn his pay check to allow us more cap space for people, do I blame him or mad at him for not doing so? Not in the slightest bit, but I have no clue how he's earning this love affair. I'm sure it's so hard playing on the most fun team in the league lol, have some perspective here folks.

All he's doing is taking away a roster spot from guys who we can count on being healthy or developing, what if Matthews or any other young rookie types could be the next baldwin..does that not make anyone cringe we could be missing out knowing rice is probably only good for 8 games a season. ..

Rice's production hasn't justified his contract, but I for one am glad he was healthy most of 2012 and there to be an veteran outlet for Wilson as a rookie. Lets not take a dump on the guy just because we paid him.

Who took a dump on him? All I see is 2 groups of people

One that love the idea of rice, and love him cause he plays for their favorite team.

And the other people that point out the obvious, he's always injured and not worth keeping.

It doesn't work that way. That would be 2.4m in dead money and another 2.4m in cap hit for 4.8m this year.

I think he's a good guy a good team player and you give them a chance. Cut him and since I suspect he will get little or no looks from other teams

Let him compete for the veteran minimum contract nonguaranteed for a roster spot

I think you know what he meant.

Rice restructuring to a 1 yr, 2.4 deal all guaranteed prove it contract.

I would even be up for cutting him and then bring him back on the vet min for a total cap hit of about 3.2 mil.

Also, that quote by Tical, an injured Rice last year is still better than Lockette. And a healthy Rice is probably better than Kearse.

And that's where I can tell you about Rice's value, if he doesn't make the squad, the Seahawks only lose out on the 2.4 million they would have otherwise, if he does make the squad, he's probably the best 4th/5th WR in the NFL and I would personally would make him a 3rd and Long/Red Zone Specialist WR.

So there is a lot to consider instead of just "cutting" him and moving on.
