Chris Clemons

So perhaps you cap experts can help me. IF we sign Bennett, do we have to cut clemons in order to sign the big three (Earl, Richard, Russell W)? Also what to we do with Zack Miller?? I would think Millers blocking is to important to let go. I have heard nothing on either, has anybody esle???

Most people do think Clemons need to go, but it isn't locked in stone.

Personally I believe he is gone if Bennett re-signs.

Miller's blocking is very important, but it may need to be sacrificed to keep one of Earl, Sherman, or Wilson.

Zach Miller is going nowhere. The savings is not enough and we would not be able to fill the void.

They might ask Clemons to restructure, or they may pull off some magic and keep him as-is.

Clem started looking good and fast by seasons end. Overcoming that injury wasn't an easy thing to do and I think it'd be smart to keep him around through spring training to see how he looks unless something great comes along that you believe is definite upgrade.

$13 million for the next two years for Zach miller vs $2 million dead money. So cut him this year and save $5million this year and a guaranteed $1 million saving vs next year ($1million dead cap money next year).

It may not be huge but you can do a lot for $5million. I realize Zach has a lot more value than shown on the stat sheet but I don't think he is worth that money.........

Clemons is a $7.5 million dollar cap saving this year

They haven't cut Clemons yet because they're waiting to see what happens with Bennett. If they re-sign Bennett, Clemons is gone.

If they don't re-sign Bennett, they restructure Clemons.

I think they restructure Miller or he is cut as well. He is very important for our blocking scheme but blocking TE's are cheap, Miller is getting paid like a premier pass catching TE.

There's also a good chance we draft a TE fairly early. We were last in TE pass yardage in the NFL last year.

Disagree on both.

I think Clemons is gone no matter what happens with Bennett, because they'd eventually sign a replacement for Bennett anyway.

Miller just makes too much.. I like the guy.. but if he doesn't restructure he has to be released.

You only save $5M by cutting Miller, though. I think that's right at the fringe of his value. They could restructure him, but it's possible they don't want to tie up more money down the line. He's due a roster bonus in like 10 days, so we'll all know soon enough.

I don't think 6 million is too much for a quality starting TE. If we let him go, are we starting Luke Willson? I like the guy, but I'm not sure it's worth the chance of starting him yet. Otherwise we go out and buy a new starting TE for a few million less? Doesn't seem worth it to me.

TE Jermichael Finley is a very real option. He and Willson could be a very viable 1-2 TE setup. Finley blocks well and Willson would be more of the flex guy in the slot, down the seam, etc.

Finley should come fairly cheap too after his injury.

Finley has been speculated/rumored to be in the Hawks sight for time. Signing a vet could put some weight on Miller to restructure.

That 5 mil is huge when you consider the other guys we need to extend.

You can find a blocking TE pretty easily in FA or the draft.

Don't get me wrong I like Zach Miller and hes a guy where his value doesn't really show up in the box score, but considering we need to extend a lot of guys.. $5M helps.

I believe Zack Miller's annual roster bonus comes due shortly.

So ....... the speculation of some fans over Zack Miller for 2014 should quickly resolve itself.

I don't want to spoil the intrigue for anyone so I'll refrain from revealing the outcome.

Clemons staying or going will likely be known this week. If we don't release him this week, he may likely just stay on. There really are basically just two options here as I see it.

1) They are holding onto Clemons as a reserve option and possible bargaining leverage with Bennett's agent and he'll be cut when Bennett signs

2) They really like what they saw in our defenses ability to get to the passer last year and want continuity there and they are trying to do what they can to keep them all.

If it's the first option, We'll know when Bennett signs his deal.

If it's option two, we may still see a possible restructure if they want to keep him a little longer and save money this year, or we may just let him play out this season knowing it's likely his last in Seattle.

The Seattle Seahawks gave Chris Clemons the opportunity to transition from a part time pass rush specialist to a complete well rounded force. His adaptation and resulting production in Seattle have been stellar. How ironic, that after having proven so much about his individual play as a starter, he would now be confronting a league trend toward sharing snaps among a larger group of rotating linemen.

My guess is that Chris can play at least another 3 seasons. In my mind, it all comes down to what Chris wants to do and what goals he wishes to work for now that he has his superbowl ring. His game is so well rounded and so complete that he continues to have great value both as a player and as a mentor of young prospects.

I remain a Chris Clemons fan ...... anticipating another chapter of his career.

$2.2Million out of the $9.6million is dead money. So the saving is $7.5 million by cutting Clemons. Now are we happy with what we got or would we need one more player? If you need another player then you are spending some more money. So the question quickly does not become how do you cut $9 million but are you losing to much for the $5-$6million that you end up saving.

It isn't $9million coming off the books.

My belief is that we re-sign Avril to get him down from $7million guaranteed this year to a four year deal, cut Clemons, cut Miller and extend Sherman - all this season. Then draft for OL, WR, TE
