I don't blame guys that want to start. Similar money and a chance to carve your own legacy.

Walter Thurmond to @SiriusXMNFL: #Seahawks offered a similar deal to the one he signed with #Giants (1y, $3.5m), but he wanted to move on.

Saw this on twitter. This is kind of weird :?

The sooner you're starting, the sooner you have a chance to make big money. That's all this is about.

That's a fat assumption in the title of this thread. Obviously, if he's on a one-year deal, he's looking to prove himself as a starter. He wouldn't have that chance here.

Agreed. Lots of players have playing time bonuses and other incentives that can only be achieved by getting more snaps. As long as Thurmond was here, he was going to be the 3rd corner. It doesn't mean he wasn't happy with the organization... it means he's doing what's best for his career. Best of luck to him, except when we play him.

It's never easy for a player when his team doesn't give him the deal he thinks he's worth.

But I wish him well, he now has a chance to start at outside DB and prove he's worth a long term deal................or he's going to smoke some more dank and get strike 3.

Starts 1 year in New York and plays up to his ability, next year he will be making 7 million. Plays 1 year here again at nickel, and next year he will make 3.5 million again. I would stick with his decision and nothing negative was said.

Not like he was a dominant player, average guy who played 34 games in 4 seasons. One year to prove it, smart move by him. Not sure how much playing time he'd get here anyway.

He may have wanted to move on for off-the-field reasons too.

This is a guy who has been busted multiple times for marijuana use (it takes more than one violation to get suspended like he did) so the people around him and the environment he was in was not very good for him personally.

Maybe he wanted to move on because he knew the temptation to slip back into old habits with familiar friends was going to hold him back in his football career.

Obviously all speculation on my part, but it would be nice if he made that mature of a decision.

I am pretty sure he wanted a chance to start to show his skills. It is one of the drawbacks to competition, sometimes the starter and backup are only separated by a very fine line.

Exactly right. Also the longer you are playing without being on the big deal the bigger the chances you never get a big deal / get seriously injured etc

Thurmond knew he would not be able to star here. Even significant playing time would be overshadowed by Richard Sherman. He needs to go to a bad team like the Giants and have one heck of a season and then sign for $5million guaranteed and $15 million for three years or more if he plays really well and he is set for life.

By "change of scenery" Thurmond meant a chance to prove he's a starter and not a slot guy, and worth more money next year.

Change of scenery and opportunity to win starting CB job. He could have come back and competed with Maxwell for the starting CB job but this also was his first chance to make a choice based on where he wanted to go. His career has been up and down due to injury and bad personal choices. I think this was the best move for him. Will give him a chance to show the NFL that his talents transcends any scheme. He is the more prototypical DB, with decent man skills and speed to play the various zone schemes along with press technique.

Side benefit, with him being in NY, I am sure his new fans could not care less where he went to college so he can openly root for his Ducks in peace.

Thurmond deserved the opportunity to become a starter. I don't blame him one bit for wanting to leave. Wish him the best of luck and hope he becomes a dominant corner in New York.

Yet Thurmond will be the slot guy in NY after they signed DRC and already have Prince Amukamara (or however you spell it).

If he signed in NY solely to get out of the slot, he's going to be disappointed.

Some of the Hawks players may have snubbed him in the locker room for being a stupid stoner.

It's possible.
