Tony McDaniel at the 5-tech will blow some poor TE or RT up every first and second down on this new D-line. McDaniel,Mebane,K.Williams, and C. Avril will dominate and wear down any O-line in the land. Mebane and Williams will command respect becuase of their ability to collapse the pocket and leave the OT's on their islands with little help. C. Avril is a perfect Leo with his size, snap anticipation, and his ability to convert speed to power. Tony McDaniel might be better suited for the 5-tech. McDaniel more than held his own in the trenches against guards/centers what do you think he is going to do against a single RT or a TE double team/chip block. My money would be on McDaniel dominating his new position if thats where the team decides to go in the regular season.

I think this idea of McDaniel full-time to the 5-tech is overblown. I think he may play their at times, but I doubt he becomes a full-time player at that spot. I think he'll play most of his snaps @ 3-technique, where he was quite effective last year.

Kevin Williams is on the all decade team for the 200's at the 3 tech and they would do the most damage on the field together so I bet McDaniel plays alot of 5-tech.

So, to push the discussion a bit, just who subs out so we can get our newly paid Bennett on the field?

It's all about matchups. Against the 49ers, we could see a lineup like this:
SDE McDaniel (6'7, 305)
DT K. Williams (6'5, 315)
NT Mebane (6'1, 311)
WDE Bennett (6'3, 275)

In passing situations, it might look something like this:
LDE Avril (6'3, 260)
LDT Bennett (6'3, 275)
RDT J. Williams (6'3, 320) or Hill (6'1, 300) or K. Williams (6'5, 315) or McDaniel (6'7, 305)
RDE Mayowa (6'3, 250) or Schofield (6'2, 240) or Marsh (6'4, 250) or Jeffcoat (6'3, 250)

Then against a pass-first team like the Broncos, the base lineup could look like this:
LDE Bennett (6'3, 275)
DT McDaniel (6'7, 305)
NT Mebane (6'1, 311)
RDE Avril (6'3, 260)
