1. Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks
2013 cap hit: $700,000
2013 JVM: $15.5 million
Value differential: $14.8 million

The Seahawks are getting a tremendous deal on Wilson's contract, and as a result they have been able to invest heavily in other areas. Wilson deserves to get paid like one of the top quarterbacks in the league. He doesn't put up a lot of 300-yard passing games, but he was one of the most accurate passers on deep throws in 2013, and posted 922 passing yards on throws of at least 20 yards, which ranked fourth in the league.

For the second straight year, Wilson was among the top five undervalued players in the league (and last year was the second straight season that he ranked as the NFL's most undervalued quarterback). If I had to bet on one player to be the most undervalued in 2014, it would be Wilson.

has there ever been another NFL player who could be simultaneously viewed by "nfl experts" as being both the most under paid AND the most over rated?

That's because you have 2 different train of thoughts on Rw. Thought one is people who look at all the stats, actually watched a lot of games, did not get caught up in the media hype of Luck, RG3, etc, and are not caught in the QBs have to throw for 400 yards, and be 6'2" to really be QBs (Sapp). Then there are those who are blind, never watched a game or only 1 or 2, who only know you need to be 6'2', and through 400 yards, and got caught in the media hype and are not man enough to admit they were wrong (Prisco).

The bad part is this will always exist, no matter how well RW does, it will always exist. Prisco has already said he still has not bought into Rw and never will. HIs reason you have to be 6'2" to be a good QB.

IT is what it is, no matter how stupid it is, or they are in this case.

Huh? Sapp has said on the NFL reaction show that RW plays pretty much the QB position perfectly. I'm sure he dissed him in the past, but he is changing his tune about our man DangeRuss.

Prisco would probably still prefer Dan McGuire over Russell Wilson. Some folks are just dedicated to dumb.

Wilson is underpaid. Whether overrated or underrated? Does it matter? I find all the people looking to dig up slights to Wilson amusing, because it truly should not matter anymore.

He wins games. Wilson got us to a SB.

He did what you want your QB to do. Even the best QBs only get there a few times, if that, on average.

At some point, you have to realize that people have opinions and what they think does not matter. Plenty of people talked a lot of crap about Steve Young before he won his first SB, remember the famous video on the sideline of him having his teammates "take the monkey off his back"? Now, most people use him as an example of the paragon of the running QB that can also play the passing game. But for years he had his detractors even though his accomplishment was clear on the field even before he won his first SB.

Ultimately whether people think Wilson is over or under-rated, Wilson has produced incredible results. And considering young QBs get better over time if they work at it - it is likely he will improve. So there is a good reason to be happy with what we have, even when he gets a market value contract.

I'm way past caring whether the media likes or accepts Wilson. In the NBA, for a while Duncan was derided not because he was not great but because he was "boring"? He didn't get the press or commercials of some other players, but he won plenty of trophies.

Wilson wins, that is what he needs to do for us. While it is nice if the rest of the country recognizes that, I could care less if they dismiss him or not because what will matter is how he does in the regular season or the playoffs. And so far, he has done very well.

Pricso ;) ?, well, he is making huge money with his "Stupidity".
Must be like abstract art, that not everyone can understand, see, nor appreciate eh?
In other words, Pricso has taken stupidity to an art form :16:

You get more site hits by being controversial.

However, Prisco is a freaking idiot.

The only thing that gets under my skin at all is the elephant in the room. If Luck had Wilson's stats what would all the prognosticators being saying about him? Instead you hear excuses for why his stats aren't as good. At some point the facts become to obvious to ignore. Hopefully it's not until after Wilson's contract negotiations (where's the sarcasm icon?).

Their $15.5 million value estimate is way too low. The formula must be based on QBR.

other than yards and attempts his stats are not as good as RW, not even close, however the excuses abound and none can be backed up by stats.

RW is a victim of being a third round pick under the new salary restrictions set in place the year he was drafted, period, the HAWKS couldn't have paid him any more even if they wanted to.

Unless he craps an egg this season he will get a top level QB contract this next time around.

And don't forget that I am pretty sure it was Uncle Paully that got him that nice juicy Microsoft tablet ad that ran in heavy rotation, NATIONWIDE, that most like got him a mid-seven figure deal for what he did.

His current NFL salary,, chump change, but if you could see his tax return at the end of this year, he ain't underpaid one cent.

GO HAWKS!!!

I am surprised Luck isn't the most underpaid.. isn't he worth like 30M a year because he does everything in Indy? Nickel pass rusher, ST gunner...
