Did we even throw deep one play today?

I don't remember us going deep even once today Maybe it's because of our crappy pass protection but when you have the speed of Harvin and Richardson you need to try and open up the field. Thoughts?

You need adequate pass protection to throw deep.
All the times Russell has scrambled around and completed a 30/40/50-yard bomb with zero help from the O-line in the past would seem to indicate otherwise. We should have tried rolling him out of the pocket by design and gone for some intermediate (15-25-yard range) throws, IMO.

Yeah, unfortunately we threw out deep on the 4th down to end the game. .. It wasn't a very high preventative play given the circumstances

We tried a few times. O-line would hold for four seconds, nothing open, Wilson bails.

We needed to run Lynch more early and more often. Completely moronic game plan in this heat. Stupid crazy. I don't know what Bevell and Pete were thinking. Completely against the Pete/Cable philosophy. That cost the game.

Seattle has been attempting way fewer deep passes, and this has been true since the first preseason game. It was even true in the Super Bowl. The Harvin effect isn't just about having open receivers, it's had a big impact on playcalling too.

The good news is, our offense should still be really good either way. It would be nice to see Wilson connect on a couple bombs every game to keep defenses honest though. Why waste the NFL's most efficient deep ball?

Baldwin is having a pretty bad start to 2014. None of the WRs look completely comfortable in their roles just yet. I think Wilson misses having a big target, too.

I am really surprised we haven't seen a "speed package" so to speak with Lockette, Harvin, Richardson on long developing routes. Heck Michael in the backfield (if they ever activate him for a game, that is) would make it even scarier.

We went to Kearse in the 1st quarter..

Yep. First drive RW threw a 30 yd pass to Kearse on left sideline that was completed. It drew a pass int on defense. Also threw a laser to Walters for 17 yds.

It's funny how RW has a higher yards/attempt and also completes more deep passes per attempt than nearly every qb. Yet he's still regarded as a game manager while dink and dunk guys like Manning is regarded as elite playmakers? Maybe RW should take a page out of the Rivers and Manning playbook?

O-line is still a major issue, rather have Wilson dink and dunk and have lynch/harvin run around until this line can get thier act together especially in the later half of the season.
