How cool is it that we are the team that everyone is trying to find the blueprint for?

The only problem with this blueprint is it requires an elite QB with a ten year connection with an elite TE

Very cool ...... the recognition feels good.

The Chargers' brilliant game planning exposed some cracks in the Seahawks' defense, but even with the winning script in hand, it still takes flawless execution to defeat the defending Super Bowl champs. It will be interesting to see how many teams can copy San Diego's blueprint for success against Seattle. The Denver Broncos, still smarting from a Super Bowl XLVIII beatdown, will get a chance at redemption this coming Sunday.

And

Despite all of that we had 2 drives to win the game even though the defense did almost nothing and Lynch and Harvin were barely involved. Cant forget the 3 fumbles that bounced right back to the Chargers either.

They didnt crack anything IMO. Lets see Denver try that on Sunday and see what happens when our D is able to play on a faster field, and not completely drained from the heat and having a lot more energy to play. My one big takeaway is that alot of our D didnt even seem to want to be there...no enthusiasm like usual

Try that dink and dunk Denver....please..

The season is alive and well (well, minus all the abuse and drug stories--good luck Goodell).
Loving the attention after all those years past. Its gonna be a really great Sunday about 5p PST.

Meh...

...it's just football.

In that second clip it was probably a good idea for Rivers to call a run play- and Woodhead did get the 1st. But I'm seeing a couple of late-ish reads and bad angles taken by Hawk's linebackers (Kam was 5 yards upfield before Wagner took a step toward the play), and some decent second level blocking. Then Maxwell and Earl run each other over. I'm thinking another day, another time, they run the same play and 8/10 times it's piled up for minimal gain. The game plan was solid, but consistent execution was the key. And the Chargers certainly executed.

I thought the D did a much better job containing the run in the second half and played generally pretty well. That first half though was brutal. Everything went right for the Chargers and we barely lost

I feel like it was the exact same gameplan the Broncos tried to use in the superbowl except in that game it wasn't 300 degrees and we didn't forget how to tackle.

Make no mistake. San Diego devised a heck of a game plan and executed it to near perfection.

However, game plans generally work when they accentuate who you are at the core. Philip Rivers is the best 3rd down QB in the NFL (better than Manning, Rodgers, Brees, etc.). He converts those at a clip that's 15% higher than the league average. He's also been tossing short passes to his RBs for years. He's comfortable dinking and dunking all the way to the bank. Most NFL QBs will make mistakes in those situations and aren't efficient enough on 3rd down to keep their offense on the field.

San Diego ran a version of this same game plan against Denver twice (beating them in Denver during the regular season and nearly upsetting them again in the playoffs). The goal was a bit different (keep Manning off the field), but the results were nearly the same. As Pete essentially said on the radio, game plans are well and good, but at the end of the day, you need the personnel to pull it off and can't get away from who you really are. That's why I don't put much stock in other teams being able to copy what San Diego did. The game plan was tailored to their existing personality, and yet with everything going their way (including the weather), they barely squeaked this one out.

SD did all of what you said David and we helped them with a LOT of mistakes on 3rd down.

It was just the right time to catch us with that game plan and that heat.

We are fine. However. KJ Wright stunk all day, Smith was a close second, Irvin?...jeez.

I personally thought Smith was worse than KJ. But either way yeah you're right

They claim to have exposed the LOB
They really just exposed the LBers coverage skills which everyone in the forum should be well aware is a weakness.

Yep, just order up 120 degrees on the field, recover all three of your fumbles, have Bruce Irvin hand you four points, and have Rivers/Gates play their best game of this decade. Yep, that's how you do it. Oh, and it has to be in your house. There you have it NFL. Why do I not feel doomed?

You forgot to include Percy Harvin dropping the ball on a kickoff return and basically handing you a free 7 points as well.

San Diego did exactly what every other elite QB does against Seattle. Dink and Dunk. It just so happens that Rivers is the very best at it, and he got a ton of help from the freakish field conditions.

And even then, his results weren't actually all that different from Rodgers, Brees, Manning etc. when you exclude his targets to Antonio Gates. Antonio Gates is what made the whole thing work.

The blueprint for beating Seattle has been the same for awhile. Unfortunately for teams playing us, it takes a ridiculously high level of execution to pull off. That kind of 3rd down efficiency is not sustainable nor is having 4 fumbles fall right back into your hands.

So , guessing that it's to turn the heat in the indoor stadiums up to 120°.

SD and Denver are very similar teams. Main difference between the 2 games were that our Dline caused a lot of early passes from Manning and made him really uncomfortable in the pocket. For whatever reason, we were unable to do that against Rivers. He hung in there and made clutch throws and ran at key times.

Rivers did play excellent and was surprised that he ran even a little bit.
