Through the first 3 games:
2013 Opponents: @Carolina, SF, Jax
2014 Opponents: GB, @SD, DEN
The Jacksonville part kinda screws it up because that's the only bad team out of the six. Our offense is pretty close to what it was last year, so with jacksonville factored in I'd say it's on par, with the benefit of probably getting better rather than declining if Harvin can stay healthy.
Our pass defense is alarmingly worse, but you have to factor in that Rivers, Manning, and Rogers are far better QB's who will throw the ball a lot more than Newton, Kaepernick, and Henne.
Another huge factor is that we forced 10 turnovers in our first 3 games last season, 7 more than we've created so far this year. . . . getting turnovers basically has a chance of significantly improving every other category on the list, and 7 opportunities to change them is quite a few.
Conclusion: here are some numbers that probably don't mean much.
