  • Les PM'd me about something random and from their our friendship grew. He was curious, attentive and strong willed.

He also followed me through my entire PhD process over the last three years, continuously checking up on me. Yesterday I defended my PhD. After my wife and my mother, Les was the third person who I let know about the outcome. I'm crushed to learn that he passed away and even more struck by the fact that it happened on the same day that I brought to a conclusion the largest factor that bound us together.

    Blue skies Radish!

  • He also PM'd me over the years over different subjects, he always came across as the nicest person you could ever meet and he really did seem happy to see and meet everyone. That part of him can never be replaced around here.

Even when he was sick different times in the past you knew to never count him out because he always showed back up here on the forums.

The last time I think I talked to him was when he sent me a PM because he thought my avatar was pretty funny, I thought I was in trouble over it and asked him if he wanted me to change it, he laughed and said no.

    You will be missed Radish.

As we age these kind of happenings strike harder and harder on us as we contemplate our own mortality.

But on a cheerful note he got to go out a Super Bowl Champion :thirishdrinkers: Rest in Peace Les your team were champions.

  • I had just sent him an email Thursday with a really cool drag racing pic. I was trying to get him to come down for the Pomona race in November.

The kind of guy that you just want to know. Could he be a pain? Well yeah, but we all are from time to time.

At tomorrow's game it would be nice if all of us .Net people at the tailgate could do a remembrance in his honor.

Maybe we all pay a little to get his name up in lights at Clink. I know pregame n shit you can have your group mentioned, right?

I know it's more a baseball practice than anything else, but, I believe you may be able to get a mention.

  • I've had interaction with Les since .net's infancy, when someone who went by the name 'Secret Squirrel' frequented the forum. Les and Squirrel are one of my first memories of .net, because of the many good-natured exchanges between those two.

Like many, my interaction with Les was through PM's and emails. He was such a genuinely friendly and sincere person. I think the first email I got from him is when he figured out I was in the military, so we shot the breeze about his Army days and whatever no good I was up to. Somehow that led to motorcycles and a variety of other subjects, including letting me know when I was at odds with forum rules in a manner only Les could accomplish.

I never met the guy in person, but I feel a bond and will truly miss him. My eyes are watery as I write this. I'm SO glad that he was able to enjoy our first Super Bowl victory. For that reason, SB VLVIII is so much more special to me now then it was a few days ago.

    RIP, Les Norton

  • Oh my goodness. RIP Les, you will be missed. This was so unexpected.

When I first started posting on the scout site, it seemed almost like a rite of passage that Les would do the :141847_bnono: to one of your posts and you'd get "the PM". It got to the point where once in a while, I'd say something smart assed just to get Radish to hit me with the finger and PM me, then I'd give him a friendly ribbing via PM.

I honestly feel like I've taken for granted the times that he would PM me to continue a conversation. I feel guilty that at times I would get busy and not reply to all of his messages. He seemed like a genuinly good person and I wish that I had taken the opportunity to get to know him better.

I also wish I could've gotten my butt to a home game sooner. He was one of the people I was excited to finally meet from .Net.

    You will be missed.

I very much appreciated Les' presence here. He will be missed, and I hope fans like him go to a reward of best seats in the stadium in the next life.

In my mind, every Hawks victory this season will be in his memory.

  • I keep thinking about him all day today. Had a good cry earlier. So strange because I never even met him in person, but I consider him a friend. I'm going to be frequenting the Gameday Forum tomorrow just because it will be the last one that he got ready to go.

We'd definitely all be wearing Les patches tomorrow if we were suiting up to play. I guess our avatars and signatures are the next best thing.

That would be awesome if you tailgaters could have a moment for him too.

Heard. Can someone ask his widow if there's a better alternative? If not, I'll do whatever I can to help to set up a memorial donation avenue with whatever charity we choose.

  • Man so sad to read this, reached out to me on several occasions, to get on me, or tell me he appreciated a post. Never had a chance to meet him in person, but after talking to him on PM's, it was definitely on my list of things to do this year.

Damn i hate reading this, rest in peace bud.

  • Oh no. Saddened by this. Couldn't help but respect his presence here. I thought everything was looking up for him. Sad day. RIP Les.

  • He was, to me, the Seahawks.net 'Dad'. Fair and kind, fun to hang out with, but didn't hesitate to slap your wrist if you were being obnoxious or inappropriate. "Check your PMs."

Glad that he was able to enjoy a Super Bowl victory. My condolences.

  • I keep checking this thread, waiting for him to pop up and tell us to check our PMs because we're all being dumb.

Just doesn't feel right not to hear from him. Seems so inevitable and then it's not.

RIP Radish: Check your PMs. Upper right corner.
