After the Vikings' second-year receiver played just three of 50 snaps in Sunday's win over the Panthers, Patterson has been benched.

Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner told reporters Thursday that from-the-wilderness pass-catcher Charles Johnson has taken over Minnesota's "X" receiver position.

"CJ is playing at a high level," Turner said, per ESPN.com's Ben Goessling. "CJ is the starter at X. That's the position Cordarrelle plays. We're going to do what we can to give him some opportunities to play there, but CJ's playing at a real high level right now."

I know many have said they wish we'd kept our pick in 2013 and got this guy. Anyone still thinking that way?

Funny how this works out, huh? We've had our noses rubbed in his name for a year now.

I didn't think much of him coming out, but even if we drafted him and used him as a pure kick return/gadget specialist, I think that'd still be a huge win over where we ended up... (considering we'd also still have our cap space, 3rd/7th picks, etc.).

But yes, his star has dimmed quite a bit in the last year.

He was always a player with all the physical talent in the world but not much between the ears. I mean, listen to the way he interviewed in college. He just isn't very bright. And that's his problem. Ever since he turned pro he'd break off a huge play and everyone reacts. But in terms of snap-to-snap he just doesn't look like he knows what he's doing. We saw that at Tennessee. Running the wrong routes vs Akron and giving up two interceptions in an embarrassing near-loss. Not fighting for the ball in the air. Rounding off routes. He was a liability. And then he'd run back a kick off for six.

If you could find a way to just get the ball in his hands and let him play in space he'd be OK. But you can't trust him to play receiver. He's a kick return specialist really and a trick play artist.

I wonder what they'd take for him?

With Minnesota having our FO on speed dial, we should soon find out.

As an aside, I don't see how the fade of Patterson somehow makes the Harvin deal more palatable. Patterson, by comparison, made chump change last year while making the Pro-bowl. Give me the do-over and hell yeah, I'd still take Patterson, the money and that 3rd and 7th back. Not to mention a cleaner, fresher locker room and a couple vets that wouldn't have been jettisoned. Additionally, because Patterson is flaming out in Minnesota doesn't automatically mean the same would have happened in Seattle. Entirely different teams and I don't hear Bridgewater inspiring Vike players with dramatic "why not us" speeches. ; )

With the QBs they've had in MN, Randy Moss would flame out there...oh, wait.

I thought he was good. Vikes killed the poor guy. Hope someone else gets him and breathes some air in - he has talent.

True. Aaron Curry could master Bevell's kindergarten playbook.

I'd give up whatever pick we get for Percy for him, that'd be ironic.

The irony is that Patterson is failing because he struggles with routes. It's as if he needs to find a team with excessively simplistic route concepts. A team that wins games by having better athletes on the field. One that stresses YAC. A team that badly needs a tall receiver. Hmm... I wonder where such a team might exist?

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Patterson is shopped this offseason, and I also wouldn't be surprised if JS made a phone call.

They might also be shopping Adrian Peterson, that could also be interesting if Lynch opts to retire. My feeling is that some team, maybe Denver, would probably pay BIG for AP though.

Imagine the roar around here if they thought Patterson was acquired at too high a price. Anything higher than a 4th would have people freaking out. Everbody is still mad about the last swindle where we traded 3 picks for a small pox blanket.

Patterson would be the #1 or #2 WR on the Seahawks. He's already proven his value over Kearse, Richardson, and Norwood. It would be a different mindset for him plus being on a winning team would help too. He needs a change of scenery.

It's seems that JS/PC get swindled more often than not- Charlie Whitehurst, Matt Flynn, and Percy Harvin. They seem always come out on the wrong side of these transactions. Maybe they need to reevaluate how they scout players and determine their value. Besides Lynch, what other trades has worked in the Seahawks favor in PC/JS era.

Or another way to look at it is, JS and PC make the moves they feel will make the team better. They identify a weakness and try to add talent to that position thus raising the competition level. There are misses and there are hits. Name another team that is as active in trying to get pieces?

You take the good with the bad, and the bad moves still ended up with us winning a Superbowl last year.

How about a little guy named Chris Clemons?

Chris Clemmons and Marshawn Lynch worked out enough to give them the benefit of the doubt. Leon Washington worked out pretty while he was here

Also, since we're talking trades Matt Flynn doesn't apply. And it really wasn't the huge deal that people keep making it out to be. 10 million guaranteed of 26 Million over three years wasn't crazy at the time. When you're talking FA signings, the Hawks have fared very well.
