That offer is a TON of money. Michigan is desperate to land him. I hope they do.

Maybe Big Blue has some tall wide receivers they can move to cornerback for their senior season?

Not sure if it's a real number or something that Harbaugh's agent is floating as a target point, but that'd make him a higher paid coach than Saban. That's kind of crazy.

Would also make him higher paid than just about everyone in the NFL... an enterprise worth billions. College football is big, big business.

Still don't think it happens.

More likely his agent leaked the offer in advance of his NFL market. Teams now know what they need to offer to be in the ballpark.

Pretty typical Harbaugh.

If Michigan leaked this it means he's not going there and they just put the offer out there to appease their alums.

If Harbaugh leaked it then they're just using Michigan as leverage for where he wants to be.

When something like this comes out this early you can virtually guarantee it is being used by somebody for something.

If anything this increases my belief that he's not going to Michigan.

Talk about a great job. Get paid that much money to go coach at a big D1 school, in front of 100k a week, do recruiting trips and not have to work the same hours that NFL coaches do? I'd leave the NFL in a heartbeat for that.

I've said Dolphins for him all along, but I'm starting to waiver.........this a lot of coin for a less stressful gig (as Absolut pointed out 2 posts above).

The fact that so much money has come in on Harbaugh going to Michigan at online sportsbooks makes me awfully suspicious....

He needs to stay in the NFL. That dude is as entertaining as a coach can be, specifically because he's the most awkward SOB to coach in a long time.

Now being reported as a 6-year deal worth $50M

PFdOj

I think Michigan is the absolute best fit for him.. not sure his ego will allow him to go back to college though, even though he could be a Nick Saban style god in the collegiate ranks

When's signing day?

This isn't the NFL. Lots more to consider here

Not saying either way but collegiate jobs need to fill early

Signing day for recruits is February 4, so IF he went to U-M, he'd have probably less than a month to solidify their recruiting class. Jim is a good recruiter as well as coach. I think he'd do pretty well, but as down as Michigan is, it'd probably take a couple years minimum. And right now it's harder to recruit to Midwest schools than the SEC teams, USC or Oregon.

Just on these two points:

1. I'm not sure I believe the job is less stressful or less work. IIRC Harbaugh has said the only thing he didn't like about coaching college was all the time spent recruiting and never getting a break from replenishing the team (like two jobs in one instead of just being a football coach, I think he described it as).

2. There's some debate on this point by 9ers beat reporters (meaning people who actually cover the team and have contacts in the building as opposed to the Lowell Cohn and Kawakamis of the world), but I've always suspected that Matt Barrows is right in thinking that although Harbough can be a total pain in the behind to be around, he's atypically not motivated by money. He's a weirdo for sure, but the WalMart khakis aren't an act, and money and material possesions just don't really matter to him (e.g. he makes 5 million a year and his only car is a beat up old pickup truck).
