The NFL was probably talking about firing him so he just retired.
The NFL supposedly is going to crack down on officials and weed out the ones that have been ranked poorly over the last few years. Leavy is universally hated by most NFL fans because he blows so many calls. He probably is just retiring so he doesn't have to be on the list of "fired officials".

Good riddance, however unfortunately he's going to become a refereeing supervisor so we haven't heard the lDt of him and he will be in a position to screw over the Seahawks again.
His apology for XL still rings false to me. That was the worst championship refereeing debacle I have seen in a lifetime of watching football.
