49ers have traded all-pro punter Andy Lee to the Browns for a future 7th round pick.

This is the definition of throwing in the towel right?

Well actually ...... doesn't this latest development fuel the notion that this was a pre-planned massacre?

With all the seats sold and ongoing roster cost cutting, it looks like a prime opportunity to continue to grow the ownership's bottom line profit.

They probably felt forced to trade him before he announced his retirement.

Haha.

The one fair thought is. There are very good things about the new kid being reported from camp we will see. Maybe Lee said trade me or else. It was a bit of a slap in the face for him I feel.

I heard Tomsula wanted to trade a 1st for a 2nd because two is better than one.

The writing for this has been on the wall since day 3 of the draft.

Quite frankly, I'm pretty surprised and happy that they got something for him in trade, as I was assuming he was just going to be cut.

Backstory:

Lee is now 32 years old, is top 10 in salary at his position, and last year was his worst year.

The 9ers drafted a punter this year (Pinion) who doubles as a punter and kickoff specialist (important to the 9ers because Dawson doesn't have the leg strength for kickoffs anymore).

I think Lee probably still has a bit of leg left in him, although not to match his salary maybe, so sincerely, I'm pretty surprised that they didn't end up having to cut him.

The reports coming out of OTAs about Pinion have been really positive, so it looks like that now they'e gotten their hands on him a little bit they're feeling good about the decision and were able to get some value for Lee before any market for him totally cratered.

It's a 7th round pick -- who cares -- but it's the first 9ers-related news I've been surprsied about in a POSITIVE way in a little while.

The Ball boy watering the flowers at Levi Stadium would be spun as a positive for the 49ers these days. Trade a All Pro Punter for a 7th, ok that's fine, but on top of the rest of the Labor Ready acquisitions and cuts of players that have a significant salary it is showing a trend. 32 years old is not old for a kicker/ punter.

LOL .......... The trade keeps more money in Jed's pocket and builds Cap room.

Soon they will be within striking distance of challenging the Raider's for most Cap space honors.

We might eventually hear Bay Area references to the Raiders and 49ers as two ships passing in the dark.

The ballboy watering the flowers just retired too. I suppose the writing was on the wall when they paved the flowerbeds.
