C.J. Spillman, a special-teams ace who played in all 16 games for the Cowboys last season and recorded 16 tackles, allegedly attacked a woman on Sept. 20 at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas.

The New York Daily News reported that Spillman was charged after a Tarrant County grand jury issued an indictment Monday.

Police wrapped up their investigation in February, and the Cowboys and NFL said at the time of the incident that it would look into the matter. Coach Jason Garrett continued to let Spillman play during the investigation, saying his roster spot wouldn't be affected unless he was arrested or charged with a crime.

Anyone shocked that this happened to an NFL team?

Fixed

Actually . . . the rate of sexual assault/domestic violence for players in the NFL is significantly lower than the national average for men between the ages of 25 to 29.

Because every time an NFL player is arrested, there are hundreds of news stories broadcasting the incident, there is this false perception that the crime rate is higher. In fact, the opposite is true.

What's even more amazing to me is that the arrest rate for MLB and NHL players actually exceeds that of NFL players by a significant margin. And yet, there is still that false perception. Some of that has to be the relative popularity of football in comparison to other sports. Unfortunately, I think it also feeds into a convenient racial narrative for some people.
