Connolly signed as an undrafted free agent with the Jaguars out of Southeast Missouri State. He signed with the Patriots as a member of the practice squad in 2007 and stayed with the team the remainder of his career, starting 71 of the 85 games in which he appeared beginning in 2008, including all 43 since 2012.

Connolly, 32, suffered four diagnosed concussions while in the NFL. His decision to walk away, despite interest from other teams, was made largely to spend healthy time with his three young daughters, all of whom are under the age of 6.

I can't blame any football player for retiring because of health/future life concerns .
