Borland and other rookies were instructed by the NFL to hire "fall guys" to shoulder the blame if they ever got in legal trouble and the league would bail them out.

To be fair, he said one NFL vet told him that. It's BAD in a big way, but it wasn't exactly the league sanctioning it as much as one vets advice.
True, but the NFL brought in the vet to act as their representative. And I doubt the NFL would disagree with what the vet told them. Well, behind closed doors anyway.

Shameful. Zero integrity. Terrible advice.

Was a stupid thing to say. Bit of a glimpse into how some of these guys perceive themselves imo. Above the law, entitled.

(obviously talking about Carter - relax, Marvin)

When Carter said that he got a laugh. Not to get in the way of the moral umbrage, but I think it was pretty clear he was joking, or at least, giving advice through a "joke."

And really, fall guys are common for EVERY high income/high status position. Corporate CEOs have 'em, politicians have 'em, middle managers even have 'em. We don't need to play stupid about that.

The 49er players screwed up the strategy. They thought Carter meant they should be fall guys for each other. :D
