Looking at that pic, he's had even extensive damage all the way to the ring finger. He's lucky he has use of his middle finger. From what I've read as well, there was trauma to the palm also; that's gonna cause nerve damage that might make using the remaining fingers hard to do. Just unfortunate, I feel for the guy, but at the same time when you mess with fire you get burnt. Literally.

He probably gets confused when he goes to flip people off. The "flippee" probably thinks he's saying "Hold up a minute, I want to talk to you."
