UPDATE: Wow, looks to be nearly finalized and Kiko Alonso thrown in for good measure. Eagles bailing on everything with Chip Kelly's name on it (well except for the great Sam Bradford).

Looks like the Dolphins are in 'deep' negotiations with the Eagles to pry away Maxwell for potentially a late-round pick. Kinda disappointing to see how he's turned out since leaving the Seahawks (granted it was only one year) but once again it shows the foresight our GM has of a player's value.

Boy Im glad Kelly is in Santa Clara. That will soon be an even bigger dumpster fire than it is now

Maxwell is a nice player. Why the Eagles give big money to CBs who excell playing press (Nnamdi before Maxwell) and then ask them to do something else is the epitome of dumb.

Schefter reporting deal is close to being finalized .. apparently Maxwell AND Kiko Alonso are headed to Miami for picks.

Eagles are determined to get rid of anything Chip Kelly related it seems. Byron is a good #2 CB who benefitted from our scheme and got paid #1 CB money thanks to being the best FA option.

Man if we could restructure Maxwell to say 5/6 million AND add Kiki Alonso I can't see how John and Pete wouldn't be all over this. Talk about killing two birds with one stone and filing two 2 bigs needs! Doubt we'll be able to keep Lane or Bruce.

CB2 & LB both taken care of before the draft for a low pick seems like a no brainer.

Actually I think it is awesome. Anything to devalue our current players with a belief that they are successful because of the system. This will make it easier to keep players / sign them back after 1-3years with other teams and already PAID

If Seattle had made this deal, I'd be pretty happy about it.

Was it because of Grimes wife that the Dolphins wanted him gone? Or am I thinking of some other player's significant other?

EDIT: I guess not

According to sources, the Dolphins approached Grimes about restructuring the four-year, $32 million contract he signed Miami in 2014, and the nine-year veteran declined, preferring to become an unrestricted free agent.

too much money for Maxwell

makes him difficult to trade

the eagles must be unloading a large part of his contract in that deal

Sounds like the Dolphins are taking on the whole contract. If true, the Eagles made a great deal to dump that contract.

Philly is eating the guaranteed salary though, so Miami can really cut him whenever they see fit.

We would still have to take Maxwell's contract which he refused to renegotiate leading to the trade (good for him for saying no), so we would be paying him 10 million a year which the Seahawks already refused to do and Kiko Alonso was a complete non factor last year in Philly when healthy. He started very few games. I would have been completely disappointed with losing the draft picks and adding the salary.

That is not normally how it works

The team that originally signs the player eats the whole signing bonus. Then if traded during a season they eat the up-front money for that year but not salaries for games to be played. Guaranteed money for future year becomes the responsibility of the new team.

Like Graham -- Seattle has the guarantees that the Saints agreed too but they paid the signing bonus

The deal sounds like it might be off. Seems Maxwell's physical with Miami turned up an issue with his shoulder.

Tanny got shook down and luckily for him the rest of the organization had a day to undo his damage.

As always Tannenbaum is left looking like a fool and off to the proctologist for stitches.

Saw a twitter post from, I think Ed Werder, that said the deal was Maxwell, Alonso, and pick #1.13 for pick #1.8.
