They should put a post down the middle, and if the kicker declares that he's aiming for it from 50+ it automatically ties the game if he hits it, no matter how big the opponents lead is.

Kickers are a lot bigger and more athletic than they used to be (remember all of the soccer guys in the 80s/90s?) They just don't look it because every other position got bigger, too. Covered stadiums and better field surfaces (excluding Pants Park, where the turf lasts about as long as a celebrity marriage) have probably brought the average up a few yards as well.

84.5 might be doable in thin air with a massive tail wind, but the trajectory would be so low that chances of it getting blocked would probably increase significantly.

Training.

Seriously, kickers were the most unathletic specialists in the league. They stood to gain the most performance wise from improving their athleticism.

The improvements to awareness in kinesis in training regimens (core strength and full range of motion training) probably has a great deal to do with improving the power from the kicking motion. That's been a relatively new training technique.

The real question is: How is our new centre going to handle long snaps?

Kickers appear much stronger now. They probably spend a lot more time in the squat rack than they used to. Power will increase with strength (to a reasonable limit), which is why I'd rather take a punch in the head from a dude who squats 225 than one who squats 585.
