"Jackson 5" is their proposed nickname.

After picking off Roethlisberger five times, two for TDs, they seem to be the real deal.

Gus installed a monster in North Florida.

I'm rooting to see them become best defense of the AFC.

The Jags might win the Superbowl if they had a QB. Bradley defintly acculated some talent there but picking up Bouye and Campbell in the off-season really put the final touches on that D.

Defense and running game are really good, they'll get into trouble if Bortles has to win games though.

Yep.

It's crazy trying to watch them win while trying to totally avoid the existence of QB as a position in the offense.

Not to beat a dead horse, but if they had brought in Kapernick I seriously think they would be Super Bowl contenders.

That's not a ringing endorsement of Kaepernick's play either.

Their pass defense and run offense are simply that good, and Bortles is simply that bad. Add in a mediocre, high variance QB who doesn't turn the ball over like Kaepernick and they could have seriously ignited this year.

I think the only way for that to be true is if they had an all around elite defense - but they don't. Their run defense is horrible. Kap is not a better passer than Bortles, so they might be better, but I'm thinking only by two wins or so. If their run defense was even just league average though they would almost be the exact same type of team as the Niner teams Kap had success on...

But then again Harbaugh IMO is a QB whisperer, and Marrone is not.

It's not good. True. That said, there also hasn't been a better time in NFL history to have an elite pass defense and below average run defense.

Strongly agree to disagree, and that is in no way a compliment of Kaepernick.

And even beyond his superiority as a passer, Kaepernick would make the strength of their offense (their run game) even better, unlike Bortles who is the primary reason why Fournette gets stuffed so frequently.

Kaepernick would have opened up the strength of their run game even more, the same way Mariota does for TN on the weeks when he's healthy.

To say that Kaep isn't as good a passer as Bortles is ridiculous, he's much better.

I agree their run defense isn't good enough. They can easily improve on that, though. I agree that their corner duo is up there, right below Harris and Talib. Safeties seems solid but not spectacular. I'd still take Denver overall.

LOL.

After the Jackson 5 makes Seahawk fans question Wilson on December 10th, it will be more exciting.

Hell, the Giants may do a little bit of that this Sunday.

With as many top 10 picks they have had over the past 6 seasons they should be one of the best teams in the NFL by now.

You'd think. The Browns should be a dynasty by now. Guess there is something to be said for ownership, management an good coaching.

Our defensive coordinator right now was our d-line and run game coordinator who used to be your d-line coach in 2011/2012 - Todd Wash. So Bradley gave us that. lol.

We still essentially run the same scheme still. It's just that between Ramsey, Bouye, Gipson and Barry Church we have so much depth that Wash essentially gives them freedom to roam and play where they believe they need to be. He trusts them and plays a lot more man coverage than the Seattle scheme typically allows.

Our d-line is loaded. Campbell is a half sack behind in leading the league. Wash plays him as the big end and inside as a defensive tackle. Ngakoue is one of the best young edge rushers in the game. He's being chipped/schemed against almost as much as Von Miller and Khalil Mack according to PFF. Malik Jackson has always been a monster. The game against you guys is gonna be a great defensive battle.

Agreed with all of this, but the bolded is a bit outdated. Even the Hawks are running man coverage for the majority of the their defensive snaps these days (it' a little harder to see b/c they're running cover 1 man a lot because until you start using motion it presents the same as a cover 3 zone with Thomas as the single high).

I have also heard "Cat 5" as a nickname. Plays on the Jaguars-cats thing and also hurricanes.

The defense the Jags have put together is definitely legit. Definitely a top 10 defense and probably top 5. Great secondary and a good pass rush. Fournette is a star. If Allen Robinson hadn't gotten hurt their receivers would have been a good squad as well.

But even all of that isn't good enough to overcome the play of Bortles.

They're a Colin Kaepernick away from being SB contenders

you are completely over rating Kaepernick. Kap is not a good quarterback. With him under center, it would be garbage out - garbage in in Jacksonville. They would be in the same position they are now.

Good call-out. We play man at the 4th highest rate in the league at 47.9%, per PFF. Not sure where the Jags stand in comparison, but they aren't in the top 5.

Correct but he'll probably never play in the NFL again so it's irrelevant. Guy should have accepted our offer.

you really need to look at the numbers between the two, they are remarkably similar. Only difference is Bortles throws a ton more.

Or dont, and keep keep living in denial
