NFL coaches and general managers got some good news Monday: The salary cap is going up.

The league will increase the cap's total from $167 million to $177.2 million for the 2018 season, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported, according to two team executives who were informed.

The raise is a nice one, but it didn't quite reach the $12 million jump teams were afforded when the cap increased from $155.27 million in 2016 to $167 million last season. The jump from 2017 to 2018, though, does mark the fifth straight year the cap has increased by at least $10 million over the previous year.

Free agency is slated to begin March 14. With Monday's news, teams now have some more cash to spend on a talented crop of available players.

Look at that the worst teams with the most draft picks, spend the least on the QB position. Trade Wilson to win!!!

And on the other end of the spectrum are Flacco ($112M) and Stafford ($111M) with one combined playoff win since 2013.

Interesting where the Pats and Brady come in on the spectrum. For arguably the best QB in that time range he's certainly not being compensated for it.
The conspiracy theorist in me says further proof that his 'Business' dealings with Kraft are a clear violation of the Salary Cap.

Sometime in a far and distant future we will find out he got a proceed from some business venture, wouldn't you love to see his income taxes year by year.

I don't need to know or see that. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.....it a duck.

Brady is the second highest paid QB of all time. He only started taking small deals after he turned 35 and guess what happened next? They started going to and winning Superbowls again. John Elway did the same thing in the late 90's.

2nd highest paid based on what? How long he's been in the league is skewing his numbers. 17 years and $196M earned equals an average salary of $11M per season.

That is grossly underpaid....period.

The QB pay chart seems a little off in what it's trying to say. So much depends on how long the QBs have been on a large contract and when the contracts were relative to each other (the usual QB escalation each contract). Interesting, but I think there's more match needed to parse the info.

Let's not make this about players from other teams. Let's keep this cap discussion Seahawks related so it can remain in the main forum. Thanks

Its still ubelieveable to me how the Pats have gotten away with paying Brady like shit

In last 3 years Brady has made less than

Flacco
Stafford
Eli Manning
Matt Ryan
Big Ben
Rivers
Rodgers
Brees

And made about the same as
Palmer
Cam Newton

I heard somewhere recently (radio?) that the big reason Brady doesn't make much now is because he was compensated with a ton of money up front/guaranteed.

They don't bother hiding it. The Pats have directly paid Tom's company for 'Sports Therapy' even though the company has been accused of shady practices.
