Does anyone have a handle on how the NFL collective bargaining agreement treats players sitting out for a portion of the year, ostensibly to get a re-done contract, or to get other things, or is it covered in the individual contracts?

One thing for sure, if they sit out games when not injured or otherwise have a problem like a family thing, they lose game checks. They don't get paid. I think the team can fine them, too.

They don’t get paid. After 8 games (I think) the year also doesn’t toll so that year contract just goes to the year after — why nobody holds out that long.
