Ranking significantly better than the Seahawks performance against choking dog old man Manning and the Broncos offense in 2013, per Bill Barnwell.

With articles such as this (backed up by statistical analysis) and all of the articles which came out after the 2015 Broncos Von Miller-led D dismantled the Panthers, that proclaimed that Broncos D to be the best of the past 20 years, it seems like Seattle fans are the only ones harping on the 2013 Seattle Defense. Most people have already moved on, and it hasn't even been 7 years, lol. Oh well, not every defense is still remembered and incessantly cited and referenced 30+ years after the fact, like the '85 Bears Defense. Plenty of NFL fans of all teams, and analysts and media still reference the '85 Bears quite frequently...case in point, when the Pats held the Chiefs scoreless in the first half of the AFC title game, there there were plenty of people in the media and on twitter referencing the '85 Bears as in "Jesus, the Chiefs offense just made the Pats D look like the '85 Bears in the first half!" The same can be said regarding the Patriots performance yesterday against the Rams, which inspired plenty of references to the '85 Bears Defensive Dominance which has never and will never be seen again....references to the 2013 Seahawks Defense which barely held on to beat Colin Krapernick in the NFL Title game that year....not so much, lol, even though they are a hell of a lot more recent than the '85 Bears....food for thought, lol. :snack:

The '85 Bears remain and will FOREVER BE the MOST DOMINANT DEFENSE IN NFL HISTORY AND THE BENCHMARK for NFL DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE. Anyone who would even attempt to dispute that point is simply deluding themselves.

Maybe statistically it was a better defensive performance, but no one can deny the utter and complete beatdown we put on the Broncos, in ALL THREE phases.

Just holding an offense down is great, but we bullied, bludgeoned and punished the Broncos into submission.

IMO big difference.

The Rams offense was good this year but the Broncos were historically good that year.

I am certainly partial to the 85 Bears as being the best ever. Just an impressive unit and what they did in the playoffs was amazing. That said, in the Super Bowl they played the wild card New England Patriots.

Cool story bro!

I remember that Bears team getting torn to shreds by Miami, then getting their prayers answered when the Dolphins had the shocking choke in the AFC title game against New England. That rough, tough Bears team, getting reduced to whining, crying, and sniveling in the Orange Bowl because the Dolphins crowd was just a little too much for them, so they had to beg the refs to quiet them down. Sounds like a team that was ready to quit to me.

The Bears didn't play the Hawks in 85....considering how inconsistent we were in 1985, maybe that was for the best. That said, we did play the Bears in 1984 and 87 during their "run".....and the Seahawks stomped on the Bears in both games.

i was wondering how detailed the patriots pre-game scouting job against the rams had been. it seemed like the patriots knew what the rams were doing. the only thing the rams had going was a decent run game, but they didn't take advantage.

I didn't watch the game live but having just caught the replay; No, this is not the best defensive performance in Superbowl History. The Rams are not coming off the greatest offensive season in NFL history, they don't have the 2nd greatest QB of his era coming off the best season by a QB in NFL history. You could argue they don't even have the 10th best active QB and there is potential their best offensive player is hurt or something.

The Seahawks were ahead 36-0 when the Broncos scored their only TD at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Broncos literally needed garbage time to score their only TD. Before that drive, they had 150 total yards and 0 points, 1.2 YPC, and Manning had a QBR under 50, 4 turnovers, with 14 minutes remaining. If that game was closer Seattle probably doesn't give up points and likely holds the Broncos under 200 yards.

The 2013 Seahawks are the best defense of the modern era by just about every conceivable metric.

The Pats Defense last night was good, I’m not going to take away from their accomplishment, But it was no where close to the Best Super Bowl Defense performance! Not even top 5! They are an amazing organization on an amazing run, but the main stream media just went overboard with this article and that statement. This is just a sensationalized article trying to take advantage of the moment.

Thats hilarous, we did it agaisnt one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time and the Pats did it agaisnt Jared Goff? Dont forget our defesne and special teams also score 16 points in that game and the hell with the 85 Bears too. What did the highest scoring team back in 85 put up a game 19 ppg? Child Please!

Bill Bar... who?
And the media slobberfest over the Patriots continues. That article was full of cherry picked stats.

Coaching wise, it probably was the best ever followed by the 2013 Seahawks.

The Patriots just did not have the horses to hold a top 4 scoring offense to 3 points.....any team that makes it to the Super Bowl is supposed to score more than 3 (I think it's only happened one other time before in the early '70s).

So while the '13 Seahawks, '02 Bucs, '00 Ravens, '85 Bears all put on more dominating efforts, most of that were the players kicking ass.

Probably give the Seahawks the most credit of that short list above because they had to face a real QB and offense.

Not worth adjusting 8 points versus 3 for offenses........an elite defense can do that to any team on any given Sunday.

Don't forget guys, the Patriots only scored 13 points themselves.........a lot harder to pitch a near shut out when your own team isn't scoring a ton itself.

What was great about the Patriots performance is it came almost from nowhere.

They were shredded last year against the Eagles, weren't great this year and the chiefs had them beat except for the offside penalty overruling the interception.

BB dialed up a hell of a plan for this one.
