Didn't understand the trade at the time. Makes even less sense now that they let him walk.

It was a smart gamble in my opinion. They needed a backup and Hundley seems to be liked around the league or at least intriguing to teams, and had a little starting experience. So Seattle covered backup QB for a year spending just a 6th round pick knowing he'd be a UFA the following year with the possibility of netting them a higher pick because of how QB salaries are so inflated compared to most other positions. Looks like he signed for up to 3M which will maybe just get them that 6th rounder back or maybe a 7th (but at the very least will protect them from losing comp picks for Earl and Coleman).

Throw in that if Hundley had balled out in preseason and ended up signing with a team for 6-7M as a young guy with a shot to compete somewhere else they could have turned that 6th into a 4 or 5 maybe. Didn't work out like that this time but it's the sort of thinking outside the box that I love to see. Trying to get an edge any way you can!
