Just above, but it would have been the reverse if Clark went first.

More than anything though, I'd *guess* they're also looking for different deal structures.

Lawrence is only a couple years older (27), but he's taking a five year to up the GTD because this is his big payout.

I could easily see Clark angling for something like 65 over 3 years w/ 40 GTD, which could give him a second huge payout in his age 28 season.

The Hawks wouldn't want to do that (it's a small bump in numbers on Lawrence's deal, but the real hit is two less years of team control if they want it), but Clark may be able to force it because the Seahawks are kind of bent over the barrel for the franchise tag next year (with Wilson, Wagner, and Clark all coming up, that means that for two out of the three of these guys the Seahawks can't use the tag as a bargaining chip, which really, really does weaken their bargaining position -- it even does this off-season, b/c agents recognize the conundrum their in next off-season).

Lawrence imo is a lot better than Clark. If Lawrrnce is first tier talent than Clark is second and the pay check should reflect it.

Financial compensation for workers is primarily driven by two* mechanisms:

(1) The raw quantity of replaceable or superior talent for your position minus the cost of friction for replacement.

(2) The revenue returns that can be generated from the contribution of your labor.

Long story short, if you don't like how much NFL players get paid, you prefer USSR- and North Korea-style communism to capitalism, which is fine, but that's what your beef is.





* ---- Re "two": the third is about the % of revenue extracted from labor which can be withheld for the firm as profit, but we're not talking about that because the NFL is a legal monopoly that also happens to be located in the best developed country in the world for withholding labor generated revenue for profit, so it's really a non-issue in this case.

Actually I'd argue that they're underpaid relative to revenue generated and the uniqueness of their talent. Demarcus Lawrence, never mind someone like Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson would make a heck of a lot more I'd there weren't salary control tools in place such as the franchise tag and salary cap.

Whatever Lawrence got from Dallas is less than what he would have received if he had been allowed to test the market.

Franchise tags, salary caps and the draft are socialism in a league ran by capitalists and are un -American.

It was a dumb joke that got old around 1997. Also, it is a joke that is so old all of the responses to it are ready to go at all times.

I see DL had surgery for a torn labrum..Same as Luck and myself had.
I can tell you he isn't going to be ready early in season if at all.
Why do these guys wait long after the issue to have it fixed?
There is no rehab to fix it as it will never heal itself.

I never understood why people get upset about what another man is earning. His living - his pay. He can blow it on cars drugs money whatever. There is enough of it to go around in this country.

They will be now :lol:

I don't get the idea behind this. 2016 was a lost season due to his suspension and injury in January 2016. 2017 his big breakout season 14 sacks. Then this past season he was back down to 10 sacks which were closer to his 8 sacks in 2015. It does not really seem like he is trending upward. Clark has gone 10,9,13 in sack production, those numbers are all really close and his only low production season was his first season.
