  • This is really the first year there's been an interest in Bevell and Bradley. I think that they got their interviews in and the word is out on them. They likely come back (although they each have another interview with Bradley at Jacksonville and Bevell in Arizona). I would think by this time next year, one of them may very likely be an NFL head coach (assuming neither gets the gigs they are interviewing for currently)

Well i didnt want him to go. My main preference woudl have been he signed a 10 year contract to stay. But I think him leaving is better then the will he/wont he every year so since he wasnt willing to make that commitment, yes i'm happy he's leaving.

But sorry Throwdown, not weeping. I predict Oregon is in the title game next year with or without Chip Kelly.

Think it will kill our recruiting class for this year but will actually help recruiting long term. Most duck fans hate Chip Kelly's recruiting tactics and feel he's not nearly aggressive enough.

  • Best thing is Gus doesn't go under the roasting spotlight of Philly, I think he could be a good coach but that city is brutal to start with even though I think he could do good things with them on defense and getting back to handing the ball of to McCoy. I also think Jacksonville has a lot of issues with ownership and team relocation being a possibility. Really, Gus would of been great for a team like Chicago.

Doubt it. Oregon's facing sanctions and without Kelly I think they will start to sink back to a state of utter mediocrity.

  • Interesting. The way Bradley interviews (good enough to steal the DC job from Dan Quinn who we had already hired to do the job, then good enough to have Pete keep him even though he purged most of the other coaches) I figured he'd easily find a HC job. But the Chargers picked someone else, and now the Eagles have as well.

Bradley did say in an interview that he loves it here and that his family has "flourished" in Seattle. That might play a factor.

Nico Falah is a USC commit who had about a 1% chance of becoming a Duck before Chip left. If he decommits from USC he'll most likely be a Husky. Which was the case before Chip left as well.

Nico Falah text: "No (doesn't change things) - he told me if he leaves one of the current staff members will take his place so yes they are still an option still."

I'm not sure what that means. But if yorue asking me if i'm worried about the long term prospects for the Ducks? Not in the slightest.

And i was wrong about those 2 recruits. Theyre twins. 1 of them is saying they're going to look at other schools. The other is saying they're still solid to Oregon. We'll see.

  • Annnnnnd, first twitter report hit that the reason Kelly reconsidered is due to, wait for it, wait for it, bowl bans and scholarship reductions.

Dont be good one the West Coast, it pisses the NCAA off! It's okay for Auburn to straight hand CASH to kids, because, well, that's the SEC.

    Reminds me of the classic Inside the NBA Moment a few years ago;

"Remember what I offered you to go to Auburn, Dirk?" - Charles Barkley
    "Yes, $1M dollars" - Dirk
"That's would be cheating Charles" - Ernie Johnson
"It's the SEC...so the NCAA says its okay" - Charles Barkley

I'm not denying that Oregon faces sanctions. I know they'll get something (although i'd be surprised if its a bowl ban, i expect a loss of some scholarships, but we'll see).

Of course there's going to be speculation about why he left but that viewpoint doesnt make any sense unless some huge news came out in the last week and a half, which hasnt happened. Its not like the investigation is some big secret that just started, its been going on for 2 and a half years. So if that was Chips reason for leaving he would have just left a couple weeks ago when the possibility first came up. I think the more likely reason is this:

There will also be an interesting debate about if Kelly was given enough personnel power. Freeman reports Kelly got a "large amount of personnel say."

Source says Chip Kelly is indeed head coach of the Eagles. ESPN was first to report this. I'm told Kelly got large amount of personnel say.

    — mike freeman (@realfreemancbs) January 16, 2013
This makes sense: the best tactic that you can ever have in a negotiation is to walk away from talks. Kelly did just that, "returning" to Oregon and spurning the NFL and, apparently, convincing the Eagles to give him the personnel control that he wanted.

Well then what do you think changed between two weeks ago and now regarding any sanctions? The earliest any new info will come out is this spring when they go to their NCAA "trial". Right now its just a holding period as far as that is all concerned.

Kelly is going to trade for Jonathon Stewart, Dennis Dixon, Ed Dickson, and he's going to send an inquiry to Carroll about Unger. He'll then draft Dion Jordan and Carson York.

  • A lot of speculation in the Portland radio media that his offense will look a lot more like the Patriots than like the Ducks. (For those that dont know Bellicek and Chip are buddies who have spent time at each other's practices).

Also, its being reported that his likely defensive coordinator will be the d. coordinator from the university of Georgia and that they'll be switching Philly to a 3-4.

Who is "they"? Softy? I know the local media hates him, because he didnt give them access. National media some love him, some hate him. His players love him as much as i've ever seen any players from any sport love their coach (based on tweets and interviews i've seen today and over hte last few years).

I also know he's really respected and has lots of buddies in coaching. I know he and Sark are good buddies. Urban Meyer spends time at Duck practices with him. Bellicek as i mentioned.

I know this is off topic, but I wanted to point out that both those teams went with coaches who have offensive backgrounds. It may have nothing to do with how Bradley interviews, but how he answered who he wanted as offensive coordinator and his offensive philosophy.
