Does Osi have a point ?

I was recently watching the nfl channel and Osi (Giants) was talking about how the league is starting to pass roughly 6 out of 10 plays. So a team should have the pass rushers on the field more and use there run stoppers aka Red bryant types in a more situational role. at first i was a non believer but now i believe this to be more logical. the atlanta game was a good example of us being spread out and not being able to get to the quarterback when we needed too. So i think seattle should get a fast or quick all around DE in the draft that we can not another leo but a strong side DE that can handle the run and rush the passer becuase i have a feeling with all tha spread, pistol, n pass happy teams in the nfl our base d could be nickel and dime. Red bryant is still crucial to the d but when it comes to rushing the passer their are some things he jus cant do.

That would make sense if we were in the NFC North were you have teams like GB, Detroit, and Chicago that throw the ball a ton and all have relatively poor ground games. We're facing the Rams and Niners four times a year though. In the NFC West you need to be built to stop the run.

Yes. Mostly because of very poor tackling in the 2nd and 3rd level, which was the first time all year we'd seen that.

I agree we need to be able to stop the run but not having a good consistant pass rush cost us about every game we lost last year that i can remember. A more athletic 3 tech (Branch's spot) and two defensive ends on the field that can consistantly cause havoc in the backfield like the rams duo of Long and Quinn would benefit the seahawks in their base D. I would like to see them use red bryant's role more situationally like when we play run heavy teams like the 9ers n st.louis. I think Irvin can grow into the Quinn role we jus need to find the seahawks version of Long.

well Red Bryant has a foot injury that he played with throughout last season so I think thats why we saw him decline a little next year. I bet Red doesn't like to hear every 2 minutes how we need to upgrade our pass rush with OTHER players. I can see him upping the anti next year and possibly see more production. Just a thought

I don't understand why this was moved. Why are the mods so quick to move everything off the main forum, especially in the offseason when news is slow? Despite the comment not being made by a Seahawk, the OP made it a Seahawk-related discussion by asking how we should play the run and pass.

Anyways, on the topic: I completely agree. We need an all-around good DE that can play the run and pass on most downs, and bring in Red on short yardage situations. Run stuffers should be the specialists now, not pass rushers.
