Calling out abusive fans

Teams have taken measures to improve the atmosphere. The 49ers have had police go undercover as opposing teams' fans in an effort to crack down on the abuse. I would still advise against taking small children to a game in most cases.

Your right. That was a Sando statement. Guess the quote should be edited.

Well it's not a secret that 49ers fans are scumbags. Personally, I've never seen anything inappropriate occur at C-Link beyond a few curse words and your average, sporting-event typical drunkenness.

One guy I met who was a Cowboys fan said that someone poured a beer on his wife -- but I don't trust him at all, and seriously doubt that was the whole story.

Anyone ever have any problems either at C-Link or anywhere else?

I've never had any problems. And I started taking all 3 of my nephews to Seahawk games when they were in kindergarten and never thought twice about it.

But I have seen dozens of fights over the years and countless seahawk fans going over the top in ridiculing opponents (as well as countless opposition fans going over the top back at us). We have our share of idiots just like every stadium does. Although I would guess there are quite a few stadiums that have a much higher percentage of a'holes then we do.

Personally, I don't get it. It's pretty damn stupid to hate somebody because they like a different team then you do.

I've been to 2 games at the 'Stick, and there were some fans that were way too rowdy and even abusive. Honestly, I'm hoping that the new stadium with the increased ticket prices will keep those sh*tty people from affording tickets. I realize this is a socioeconomic issue, but you don't see the middle-class family fans doing this sh*t.

But if you guys think all 49er fans are scumbags because of a few, then you're mistaken. I will say, if you are an opposing fan, don't try and provoke drunk *ssholes. Just like if you go to a Raider game and start talking sh*t.

Still hoping the new stadium economy will fix this issue. Football is supposed to be entertainment, not something you need to fear for yourself and friends/family.

When I went to Ford Field, I was really impressed with their security there. I remember a drunk fool throwing peanut shells at Hawk fans and a security guy telling them very sternly that they were "out" if they kept it up. They stopped and there were no more incidents.

I've been to the Stick with no issue. I guess the bigger the crowd the more likely someone in it will pop off and disturb the locals.

Things are way better since leaving the AFCW and not having Raider fans at the dome. I literally used to prepare for battle in those days.

I have personally only seen drunken banter, very few fights that actually got going since. Although, the 2004 Monday night game against Dallas, we actually came across a Cowboys fan lying in the fetal position near an exit. He was either really drunk or someone just kicked his ass.

I would take my kids to Clink as an opponents fan before I would most any stadium I have been to.

My worst experience was at the coliseum in the 80's. Some fellow Navy gents and I wore Seahawks gear there and I think we are lucky to be alive. That game was for the division in week 16 and was a barn burner. We used to go to San Diego for the Hawks road games too, very short trip from the base and those were very timid fans.

Bottom line is, when you go to someone else's arena, you are going into their house: don't act like a jackass, and don't be obnoxious. Root for your team all you want, but don't rub it in -- particularly if your team just won the game. Also, and this needs to be said, control your drunken friend and/or girlfriend/spouse/female companion.

The last fight I've ever gotten into was in the 8th grade and I intend to keep it that way.

I've actually never seen a real fight at the Clink, idiots squaring off, but no blows. Drunks going over board, usually security is called and they get escorted out.

The swearing bothers me sometimes when I have my kid, but other than that, not too bad.

Honestly the worst thing I saw was back on '05, two drunks were sitting a row below us and to the side, 2 young women were sitting right beside my wife and I, behind the two drunks. All 4 of them obviously had been pre-funking A LOT. At first we thought they all knew each other. But as the game went on the two guys started getting really 'handsy' turning around and groping them, it was freaking bizarre. The girls were playing it off well, several times I would say knock it off, push their hands away, tell them to chill. Finally a guy behind them asked if they wanted security, they said yes. An usher waited several rows up and watched, sure enough they did it again and bam, 2 minutes later about 4 sheriffs were there and tossed the guys. Frackin' idiots.

Nobody's saying that, but I have said before that there's strong evidence that 49ers fans that attend the games have a higher violence/douchebag ratio than average.

If you have 67,000 people in one place and 66,950 are having fun and maintaining good behavior your doing well, the 50 people that can't handle alcohal, want to be abusive and create physical confrontations are a small percentage. They are always there and are always the ones that create the headlines and police blotters. Those 50 also create a reputation for the other 66,950 fans. Key is just to identify them before it becomes an issue, do this also without changeing the atmosphere of the games no matter where they are at.

If they just had a stadium number attending fans could call when at games to bring security to a location I think it would help a lot, call it an application for a cell phone where you just dial the number and then enter seat location something of that nature. Concourse's typically have a lot of security around anyway and around the stadium. With the application that just requires a seat entry you don't have to talk it's fast and nobody knows your calling.

Might want to run that last sentence by your fellow quack fans in Eugene sometime...... :stirthepot:

Clink should hire the peanut guy from the old Mariners games to fling them at 49ers heads from the stands. Hahah :sarcasm_off:

My dad and I have had Niner season tickets for 19 years. No question the crowd has changed. Every primetime game has at least one fight that I can see from my section. It may sound stereotypical, but the ticket prices being low have allowed some thuggish types to go to games and they are usually really drunk.

I definitely think the new stadium and the rise in ticket prices, as well as the new location, will cure most if not all of the problems. Games in the 90s were not a problem, in part because the team was perennially good and the tickets were much harder to get. I think the same thing will happen in Santa Clara. Plus there will be a much larger corporate presence in the new stadium.

I've lived in soCal for 6 years and have had no interest in going up to SF for a game, even though I know it would be a great game to watch. Too many bad stories. Just not worth it. My wife absolutely refuses to go regardless... really annoying that the only games I can see live are the Chargers preseason games

I have been to several SF games and the stadium keeps me from going back. I've never had an issue at all. I sit in decent seats and mind my own business. I also watch my intake and never get drunk. (as opposed to jome games at Clink.)

49er fans are no better or worse than Hawk fans or any other fans, we all have our assholes. You put together two opposing teams, add alcohol......bingo, instant assholes.

If you have never seen anything inapproriate occur at "The Clink" maybe you should try Youtube or better yet wear the opposing teams jersey to the game. I think you will be shocked at some of the things you hear, and that how it is in every stadium, people are getting out of hand.

Personally I love the trash talking, it's what makes the game so much fun, but there is a limit. No one should have to worry about taking their young children or spouses to a game. I think if we all try to check ourselves and our own fans the whole experience will be more enjoyable for all.

And forgive me for saying so, but it's just a game, not worth loosing teeth over, or spending the night in jail for.

A search on youtube turns up three seahawks fight videos -- only one of them is at C-Link and that, big surprise, involves a 49ers fan. If you search for 49ers fans fights TONS of videos come up, followed in quantity only by Raiders and Ravens fans.

Not saying that all Seahawks fans are angels, by any means. But certain fan bases are just KNOWN to be more belligerent, aggressive, and likely to get physical than others. 49ers are one of them.
