I read on BR team stream that Houston from Oak is an intriuging option. More so than Smith IMO.

Totally agree. Lamarr Houston would be a terrific strong-side DE on run downs to take Red's role, with the added ability as a solid (not spectacular) interior rusher on passing downs. Even better, IMO, would be Baltimore's Arthur Jones. Of course, neither would fill the Bennett role in the literal sense.

I really liked Bennett and hope we can get him back but I think we can replace him for half the cost and at least 2/3rd's the production if not more.

We have found plug & play D lineman every year and paid them on 1 or 2 year contracts.

Alan Branch
Jason Jones
Cliff Avril
Michael Bennett
Clinton McDonald
Tony McDaniel
Kentwan Balmer
Raheem Brock

Even Chris Clemons was a short term deal that we extended.

We seem to like to put the big men in situations where they are extra motivated and had to play to earn their pay. Which makes sense and I wish we had ptu James Carenter under this type of pressure because he has crazy potential but continues to be overweight.

We were also interested in John Abraham last year, even after signing Avril and Bennett, so older vets aren't out of our wheelhouse (Winfield, Owens also come to mind).

Smith hasn't been extremely productive recently but at his size, experience, and expected price he could put up similar numbers here or maybe even better at much much less than What Bennett is asking.

Is Johnson from Cincinnati a real possibility? Or is his price to high? I'd love to see Allen here if the price is right.

Lamarr Houston gets me pretty PnJ'ed. He would be a long term solution at the 5, nickel pass rush and overall upgrade to Red with more versatility.

Johnson is likely a product of the Cincy defense, no real production on his own.

Lamarr Houston has been pretty good on a pretty bad team, a lot of tackles and IIRC, about 5 sacks per year. Oakland has a lot of money though and will probably overpay him, unless of course they overpay Bennett :D

If we lose Bennett, we won't be able to replace him.

He's a unique player, not many can rush effectively insider or out and create consistent pressure.

Houston played some edge for Oakland but he aint Bennett. He's better at the three. He can be really effective there. But he's a four sack a year guy. Bennett has 21.5 in three seasons since he became a starter.

Having already cut Bryant and with the prospect of McDaniel and McDonald both departing... our line could end up being decimated and they might have to adapt the scheme significantly.

Man we need to keep Bennett.

↑ I would really like to see McDaniel back and I think its realistic.

Bennet I hope comes back but Im prepared for the worst.

McDonald I just like so much as a person. I hope he ends uo somewhere starting and makes coin. Where he has come from I just hope he ends up in a situation where he can flourish. Jacksonville?
