From Rapoport:

‏@RapSheet 1m
The 5-year contract for #Vikings DE Everson Griffen is for $42.5M with $20 guaranteed. Pass-rushers are getting paid, too, along with CBs

@RapSheet 17m
My understanding on Everson Griffen’s deal with #Vikings is it’ll pay him in the upper-echelon of pass-rushers over the first 3 seasons

Have to assume if we are to keep Michael Bennett.. you're looking at a little bit more than what Griffen just got.

So is this also verification that Bennett wants considerably more than 8 if the vikes signed Griffin for that amount with out even approaching Bennett?

I'd sign Bennett for $8.5/yr any day. Not sure about going to 5 years though. Griffen is 2 years younger than Bennett.

Yeah, the first indication of the pass rusher market just simply couldn't have anything having do with the Seahawks when our most coveted free agent is a pass rusher.

Nope. No way. Not Seahawks related AT ALL.

sigh

Teams that suck often have to pay FAs more, we don't suck.

No need to judge us by other team's standards, Pete and John won't be.

Using Bennet's name does not make this Seahawks related.

sigh

I'd say it's quite relevant since Michael Bennett is the best pass rusher available and one thats seen as slightly less better than him just got 5/42.5 M

But whatever.

For Griffen? Okay. . . Terrible contract. Some ugly FA contracts already going around.

Here is a Times quick story on how this could impact the MB contract, for those who may wonder:

Griffen, like Bennett, was due to be an unrestricted free agent Tuesday, and generally was ranked behind Bennett on the list of potentially available defensive ends. NFL.com, for instance, slotted Bennett eighth on its list of the top free agents (and third among DEs) with Griffen at 19th (and fourth among DEs).

Griffen, who played at USC for Pete Carroll, is almost exactly two years younger than Bennett (Bennett will turn 29 on Nov. 13) but the two have fairly comparable stats of late (each has had 17.5 sacks the last two seasons).

So expect that Bennett and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, will examine this deal closely — which calls for $27 million over the first three years — and will want something similar, if not a bit more.

Boys and girls,,,just because one of you come up with someone you think should take a Seahawk players place does not make it main forum related. That is NFL stuff every time.

Just like you like some college player we should draft. That's draft forum stuff everytime.

As I said, adding the name Seahawks does not make it main forum stuff. This isn't anything new.

So 9 million seems to be the number, ugh.

Vikings overpaid... The market is going to be very good defensive players, and very different than last year with some of these early signings. Bennett will be paid more than that, and not by the Hawks. Perhaps he will he a Bear after all.

Vikings can afford to over pay. They had $41+ million in cap space going into Griffin's signing. So .... they can spend a lot this off season and probably next season as well.

Vikings overpaid. Remember, they are the Vikings, they won't keep players without overpaying for them.

Not the greatest of news for Seahawks fans regarding Bennett, though.

Actually the can't, it's why they suck now. If they can't draft a QB they have to pay a veteran, that isn't cheap either, Cassell isn't the answer we all know that. Vikings are doing Redskin math.

Not sure I feel good about paying Bennett who is 2 years older this type of money on a 5 year deal. I want to keep him but we need to make the deal more like a 3 year deal.
