Green Bay let Harper go today. Thank god for UDFA finds like Baldwin and Kearse because PC/JS have not had much luck on mid round WRs.

Kevin Norwood (selected with the exact same pick as Harper, 4th Round, 123 overall) is going to be a beast. Book it.

I could see Norwood getting cut with the hope they can get him to the PS, just like they tried with Harper. Probably will end with the same results but right now, with him being hurt all Pre-season, they have no choice but to try.

Or they could just keep him.

They could. Let's see, from my count:

1 - Harvin
2 - Baldwin
3 - Kearse
4 - Richardson

That leaves 2 spots for the following:

Lockette
Bates
Walters
Gilbreath
Matthews
Norwood
Presley
Smith

So you could take Norwood with one of the following 3 getting the 6th WR position (if they go 6):

Bates, Lockette and Walters

ST emphasis probably has you keeping Lockette/Walters. I think Norwood needs to be able to return punts to justify him beating out Walters or be a decent gunner to beat out Lockette.

I don't see how the team can justify keeping him on the 53-man roster. Seems you think otherwise but these are just your and my opinions. We will know for sure in a week's time.

The 5-0
Norwood is just so all around good. I was happier with his addition than Richardson's (who I also like). Too bad he's missed this pre-season but as one of the more NFL ready WRs of this class, hopefully he can pull it together sooner than most. He should have went a rd sooner imo and I think Pete will have him on the 53. I could be wrong.

Norwood will go to the IR and redshirt. Book it.

After the first cutdown teams can place players on IR without having to expose them to wavers like Bowie. That's when Pinkins, Norwood and any other young kid with a case of the sniffles will be placed on IR.

I suspect they will only keep 2 qb's

If that is the case, it's very possible they keep 7 wr's.

Being BATES, Lockette, and Norwood.

Lockette is so good as the gunner on punts, his intimidating factor alone gives him a lot of points.

That's my hope given we have no business carrying 3 quarterback until after NEXT year if that. My issue is that TJ is still on this team it's a waste of a roster spot for a player that might actually be something above league average at best in a position that's irrelevant no less. Much like 2 full backs in a league and team phasing the whole position into history.

They have never kept more than 6 WR and it's a run first team. The extra spots will go to OL or RB/FB.

Look how many WR some of the passing teams kept last year

Broncos started with 4
Saints had 5
Lions had 6
Packers had 5

Only the Patriots kept 7.

I understand the fascination with WR. It's a sexy position. But we're not going to keep 7 WR.

I wonder if Chris Harper ends up back on the Packers PS? Previously, it seemed that if you were waived on the cutdown to 75 or the first round of cuts, teams weren't bringing you back for the PS. Most times it was the final cutdown group that ended up on someone's PS.

Really can't imagine the Hawks keeping 7 WRs.

PC doesn't seem as enamored with otherwise extraneous ST specialists as some other teams. Personally I think it makes more sense for the Hawks to cut Lockette and keep Norwood than the reverse (is PC going to dress Lockette just to play ST? I don't think so, and the chances of Lockette being picked up by someone else is also pretty slim at this point IMO, meaning they can save him from his McDonald's job at any point this year if they need him for any reason).

Agreed that abusing the IR system is another likely scenario for Norwood (and no shade on that, as the 9ers lead the league in that abuse, probably).

Every smart team abuses the IR system. I remember 2 years ago when Kansas City was 2-14 and a big thing I remember was that they never made any moves with the practice squad, IR etc. Then you have teams like New England, Seattle, San Francisco...they are always making some kind of move however minor.

As for 7 receivers? No, I don't see that for Seattle. 6 I can see because they won't PS Norwood and get burned like last year.
