]why does everything have to be tied to Seattle's culture? Does Los Angeles have a bunch of lakes? Does Toronto have raptors? What does Giants have to do with NY or SF? How does the Ram fit into the Los Angeles culture?

Doesn't HAVE to be, but a lot of people like that regional connection that makes the team OURS, and not just some generic sounding names that sound cheesy and lame.

Most of the great sports franchises IMO have a great local backstory or regional connection.

Totems, Steelhead, Sockeye, those names mean something here that they wouldn't mean elsewhere.....................and IMO that's cool. Kraken? meh, sound corny and generic.

Except Alaska, Canada, Oregon Northern California,

relating to or characteristic of a region.

Region - The Northwest, many consider Alaska to be North and on the western part of the continent, but some confuse us with Eqypt, so maybe the Seattle Pharaoh's works.

Also last time I looked Salmon migrate from Alaska, you know the Copper River runs are pretty well known, the Columbia River is what separates us from Oregon which Salmon run in, and Canada is in between Alaska and Washington which Is part of the Region also, the St Edwards Islands.

Yes, all of this would be in our region (Northwest/Alaska/Oregon/Idaho). AKA the region that will support this hockey club.

Not sure why you're still confused. Steelhead, Totems and Sockeye are all regional names, thus why they're the front runners.

If we wanna go micro regional and keep it specific to Seattle, we gotta go with;

A. The Homeless Camps
B. The Fighting Durkans
C. The Seattle Gender Fluids
D. The Angry Methheads
E. Amazon's Bitch

Suns owner threatening to move the team to Seattle or Vegas. Guessing we're just being used as leverage.

Don't want the Suns, their history or their owner looking for a hand out from us.

Maybe Seattle should put up the double bird to the NBA and name them the SuperSonics. Joking...kind of. My original and current choice would be The Metropolitans but regardless I will be gathering copious amounts of team gear and my season tickets #1021 as soon as they drop.

According to a report from Sportsnet, Seattle's NHL expansion franchise ownership group intends to announce the name of the team before this year's all-star break in January.

"It sounds as though they're very, very close behind the scenes on finalizing that name, and they intend to release that name to the public before the all-star break," Sportsnet's Chris Johnston said during Hockey Night in Canada's headlines segment. "So we'll start to get a little bit of personality to go with that team."

The Oak View Group registered 13 domain names giving fans a hint at what the proposed team might be named:

Seattle Cougars
Seattle Eagles
Seattle Emeralds
Seattle Evergreens
Seattle Firebirds
Seattle Kraken
Seattle Rainiers
Seattle Renegades
Seattle Sea Lions
Seattle Seals
Seattle Sockeyes
Seattle Totems
Seattle Whales

Seattle previously had a hockey team and some credit that team for changing hockey forever. The Seattle Metropolitans became the first American team to win the Stanley Cup in 1917.

One thing you will notice missing in the list above is the name Metropolitans. There is currently an NHL division that goes by that name.

The Seattle franchise is slated to begin play in the 2021-22 season.

The franchise has already released initial pricing for club seats.

...and I think the trouble with the name Kraken, is it sounds gimmicky and pretentious.. It's like Sugar, tastes great, but soon you get tired of it...

Damn hockey's expensive.

Don't play it... Will require a loan from a local bank.

Live hockey is great though

Metropolitans is a terrible nickname. That garbage sounds like so many terrible MLS names.
