  • Bullpen was good today. Kikuchi looked great until he lost his control in the 4th. Tough to judge since the pitchers have had so little work before being thrown to the wolves.

Lewis looked much better at the plate today. 2 hits and a walk. He struck out twice but I really thought the strike 3 call on the 2nd one was a ball, believe that would have been ball 4. We got almost the entire lineup on base, Joe Hudson the only guy who didn't get on. Crawford didn't get a hit but walked twice.

Seagar is looking good, another RBI double and he snagged a couple of hard liners as well.

As one of Seaver’s biggest critics it’s nice to see him going the other way with pop.
My pet peeve in baseball is dead pull hitters. As a dead pull hitter you severely limit your chances of getting on base especially in the shift era. Hitting to all fields with power is what got Edgar in the HOF.

Sports go in cycles. We're into an era of power hitters. It's hard to hit for power while directing the ball. It just is. Not many players can hit for power to all fields. It's been going that way for a while, as more and more teams want the long ball. It excites the fans, but hitting solo home runs actually is a tough way to win.

In answer we got the shift. It looks silly to us old timers, but it works to eliminate the "dead pull hitters" from the lineup.

So we need the next wave in the cycle, guys who can get base hits anywhere in the field and can move runners. Everybody loves the long ball, but when all a hitter can do is HR or K, it limits his usefulness. Gotta have strengths in several areas, not just one.

I swear as soon as he stepped into the batter’s box he was in an 0-2 count.
Never seen a guy with such horrible instincts as a hitter. He’d chase balls a foot outside but then take pitches right down the middle. The rare times he’d hit the ball he’d crush it, but like I said, rare.

Yeah, I think he threw his arm out a little bit going 98mph early on. He just couldn't sustain that and was down to 93ish towards the end. Overall I still liked what I was. He had a little bad luck and the error behind him hurt. Can't blame him for that Altuve HR either, that pitch was almost over his head! I have no clue how he hit that out, wow. Hopefully he builds off this start and comes back more consistent next outing.

You bring up a point I think is over looked. Manager SS said he thinks the defense is a lot better.
Outside of White, I’m not seeing it. Bring up Kelenic and the argument holds more water.

  • Sheffield is frustrating to watch. Look great in an AB making Trout look silly on a strikeout, but then he starts losing control and starts walking guys. The wheels tend to fall off for him real quick.

yeah, he's been a bust. No way around it. Yeah, it's still early, but he was the centerpiece for the Ms in that deal. He looked like trash last year in the minors, and not just in Tacoma. He needs to quit fooling around.

And who the heck is this Cortes guy? Another no name reliever that appears out if nowhere that immediately allows his inherited runners to score. Then he acted like a fool with Pujols and got burnt. What an idiot.

Why does Jerry make getting quality relievers such a chore?

  • Seattle’s arson squad just gave up another lead, is there anyone in the bullpen that doesn’t suck? LOL.
This is the perfect season to see “what you have in the system” by playing the youth @ the MLB level.

Kelenic would be hitting better Marmolejos that has 1 hit and got thrown out on that very hit by not sliding at 2nd base.

  • Good game pretty much all around tonight. Altavilla got a bit shaky at the end, 8-2 woulda been nicer than 8-5 but whatever. Gonzo gets the win. Lewis with another multi hit game and 2 RBIs that made that finish much less stressful.

Who are you trading and for who. This is probably the most dangerous time to trade especially with east coast teams where the virus is running rampant.

I’d rather bring up the young pitchers in the system, but they won’t do it soon,
    because of the arbitration clock.

  • It's been nice seeing the kids come alive the past few games. That's the growth we need to see. And all 3 starters have had huge bounce back games.

With that being said, Mallex, Vogelbach, and Marmolejos need to go. We all know Mallex and Vogelbach suck. Marmolejos is giving me Tuffy Gosewich flashbacks when he's at the plate. There's a reason why he spent 9 freaking years in the minors.

The Mariners have 2 actual OF's on the roster and are sitting on Kelenic who has looked like a ROTY candidate.

And to me this seems like the perfect season to give you g guys a shot. No crowds, low pressure atmosphere...and it's either play them or have them get sit in Tacoma playing intrasquad game.

    It’s all your fault Si!

This bullpen sucks, their defense looks horrible, and their offense is anemic.
One of their solutions for the offensive and defensive woes (Kelenic) is tearing up Tacoma.
They are too worried about the arb clock starting on him.

Lewis is still hot, best start in Seager’s career, bullpen still sucks, White looked good for one AB, Moore had 3 hits.
Still too many holes in the lineup.

Would not be sad to see Vogelout, Shed Jr, or Gordon, Marjoemos (sp?) and a few arsonists in the bullpen sent down and or DFA’ed. Perfect season to call up the young studs and let em play. Yes I know I sound like a broken record.

PS. Quit pitching to Trout. Just tell him don’t even bother stepping in the batters box, just start walking to first, you’re being intentionally walked and don’t get to hit today, sorry!

Trout is a beast. They did move down marj. Jerry was on and said this season is just a look and experience for the youth.

  • I haven’t watched much of the Mariners this season. From what I’ve seen Lewis looks like he could become the next big star for the franchise. Who else do you guys see sticking around for the future? Crawford has looked decent. But after that I don’t see much. Obviously Rodriguez and Kelenic will join Lewis as the core guys. But even with them, a lot of holes. I’m disappointed in the two young arms in Dunn and Sheffield. Do you guys see them turning it around?

Trout is amazing, and numbers show that he is one of the best to ever play. For how great he is, he’s only made the playoffs in 2014 and is yet to win a postseason game. I think that shows that baseball is a team sport and not an individual sport. Which is why I would shy away from huge contracts to superstar players. Whereas I have no problem handing out big contracts in the NFL or NBA. Put LeBron James or Russell Wilson on some of the worst teams and they’ll find a way to make the playoffs. It’s just crazy to think that possibly the best player in baseball history cannot win.

They have Kelenic and Rodriguez that are going to be studs, Cal Raleigh a catcher with pop, Marte a SS with speed and a little pop. George Kirby who has great control as a pitcher as he walked no one (see zero) last year, and other decent pitching prospects. Add that to the current team and add Free Agency to fill the holes and you got a pretty good team that will contend. I’m still not sold on all of the pitching prospects outside of Kirby.

Dunn and Sheffield have preformed below my expectations so far but they have showed glimpses. They both tend to have habits of giving up big innings. I think they can still be good, they are just not there yet.

If healthy they are going to have the best outfield in baseball, once Kelenic and Rodriguez join Lewis and start
    Playing full time.

  • I didn’t watch the game today. Why didn’t Kyle Lewis play today. Is he hurt or sick or was this the “we must get 2 of our sub .200 batters AB’s” decision? You don’t take your best hitter out of the lineup if he is healthy in a 60 game season.

I’m expecting Lewis, Kelenic and Rodriguez to be very good players. After that I won’t count on any prospects. If we aren’t at least competitive by next season then I’ll be disappointed. I probably won’t watch much of this team unless they call up Kelenic and some of the other guys.
