  • Utah game is one it would be really nice if we had Karnowski. I'd say we had a fighting chance then. Really doubt we hang with Utah but I'll be rooting hard from my couch.

  • I would say Whitehead held himself to 4-24 shooting. Hard to say Zags played great, but good enough. Seton Hall clearly crapped their pants.

Nice to see Silas Melson make an impact. He's one of the guys who really fell short early in the year.

Utah will be a tough matchup, but should be a good game.

Eric McClellan is the WCC defensive player of the year for a reason. He shut down Whitehead along with Silas Melson who is a good defender himself and I imagine will end up winning the same award in the future.
If it wasn't for Wiltjer this Zag team would be elite defensively as it is they are pretty good. I saw a stat this morning that 57 of Seton Halls 62 shots were contested. Thats incredible defense. I think the Zags deserve a lot more credit than your giving them.

  • Yeah Seton Hall played horrible. The altitude affected them a lot more than the Zags. But I also thought the Zags played poorly too. Pretty bad basketball on both sides.

Their next game against Utah should be good. The two teams are almost mirror images of each other. Sabonis vs Poeltl will be must-watch TV. Two foreign players low-post players going at it, and they are probably considered as the two best post players in this years draft.

  • Zags have a chance. Ignore seedings in these tourney, look to Vegas for guidance. The game is a PK. Basically saying Zags have a 50/50 shot at winning the game. Same goes for Wichita vs Miami. Even though Miami is the #3 seed, Miami is a 2.5 point underdog to Wichita.

Definitely Middle Tennessee St. Syracuse's zone would neutralize Sabonis and force Zags to shoot from the outside. While Middle Tennessee St played a great game today against Michigan St, they kind of hit lightning in a bottle.

Suspect you're right on both accounts. Think maybe they'd need Wiltjer to go off from deep to win it vs. Cuse. Of course they've got to beat Utah first. No small feat there.

  • I'm cautiously optimistic they can beat Syracuse assuming the Orange win tomorrow. Think it'll be a tough, low scoring defensive game. Zags are playing REALLY good D right now. As for the Final 4, they would likely have to beat Virginia to get there. That would be a tough task.

  • I hope the Zags keep winning. It makes me giggle when I realize the utter hatred and jealousy this site has for anything east of Seattle. Gonzaga is a good team and has a shot to do something Washington never has. And they have been in the hunt EVERY year, unlike the Huskies. So hit me with your hilarity I'll be your Huckleberry.

I only hope Gonzaga or anybody west of Rockies is still in the tournament to beat Kansas. I love it here when Kansas basketball loses it's almost as good as an orgasm.

  • Very impressive showing by the Zags so far. I think this is the team most people expected to see all year. Where were these guys from December through February? Guards have stepped it up big. And it seems like the offense is starting to run through Sabonis rather than Wiltjer. Before Wiltjer was always the first option, that has changed now. I think the offense runs better using Sabonis as the focal point. And Sabonis absolutely dominated his matchup against Poeltl.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people (so called "experts") didn't think Syracuse was even going to make the tourney and when they did lots of people felt they didn't deserve to. I don't think it's a surprise that the Zags are the favorite, Syracuse wasn't that good this year.

I think the supposed overwhelming hatred and jealousy is WAAAAAAAAYYYYY overblown. I'm a born and bred die hard UW fan and I root for the Zags and most people I know either root for them as well or don't really care. I live in the Seattle area and I don't know of a single person that "hates" the Zags. There is a lot of support for Gonzaga on the wet side.

Not NW New York. Born and raised in CNY (central NY). I live about 40 minutes from Syracuse. The area is very rural and the geographical center of NY state is about a mile from my house. Anyway....I followed a girlfriend (stupid me) to Lincoln City,OR in the fall of '85 and have been a Seahawks fan ever since....even though I only stayed there for about 6 months. It is not looking good for the Orange as I type this.....six minutes left in game.

  • Zags out shot and out rebounded the 'Cuse and still lost. Gonzaga had 17 turnovers to Syracuse's 9.

Better year than I expected from the Zags but disappointed in a loss tonight when they had a 10 point lead in the first half and a 7 point lead later in the second.

  • Cuse was the 10th place team in the ACC, I don't think beating UVA would have been a given. Bennetts squad looks tough. But I was rooting for the zags to get past the orange. I'm not sure how on the last possession they didn't see the guy wide open out by the 3pt line, rather than driving into the lane and getting nothing.

  • The zags seemed to settle for to many 3's (that didn't go in) during the game also, which cost them. The night before UO did the same thing in the first half, then started attacking more in the second half, the zags just didn't attack the rim enough.

They all had that deer-in-the-headlights look there at the end and just folded.

Yeah I'm with you, I don't think Gonzaga beats Virginia. Don't think Syracuse does either.

    Shows you what I know.

  • Didn't want to make a whole new thread for this, and since its WCC news I figured I'd put it here.

University of Portland hires former blazer and NBA HC Terry Porter as the HC. I always liked Porter, and I bet he makes Portland into a competive team in the WCC.

  • Santa Clara hired Herb Sendek as well. Both are pretty solid hires for their respective programs.
